So, the Aries G1 is now the entry level if you already have a DAC?
Indeed, and a very good one. Definitely worth a listen.
Great system nice roomā¦Iām curious to know from your experience the difference between SL2 and Kudos 808 speakers?
Artemis SA-1 turntable with Schrƶder Reference tone arm (Schrƶder also designed the deck but it was built by a US outfit who have since vanished). Ortofon SUP Royal N,
Superline/supercap, ND555, 552, 500.
The other deck is my old Townshend Rock MK2 with Naim Aro and a London Decca maroon mono cartridge feeding a stageline N powered from the pre. Iāve tried with and without the trough and paddle damping but Iām not fully satisfied with either so the belt is removed at the moment. Iāll try an 8g headweight before I give up on the Decca, when it works itās very promising but it does jump out of the groove on some discs. (OK for those cut with a mono cutter but not all mono discs are.)
Speakers are passive Naim NBLs.
Iāve played with plug order on my linear home made power block (made using single unswitched MK sockets) quite a bit and have settled on, from the power in, Rock (Merlin) ps, Artemis ps, ND555 ps, 552 ps, supercap, 500 ps. Even swapping the Rock and Artemis ps, with the tables not running, while listening to the 555 has an audible effect, donāt ask me why. Iāve had a bit of time on my hands this year.
Yes it is. I stream Qobuz wirelessly (you can do it wired) and it also houses a 1TB SSD (not supplied) with the FLAC files I have. I have also added an external power supply to improve on the supplied wallwart.
Itās no longer manufactured as I think it was eating into their more expensive streamers sales.
Nice system and beautiful finish on the speakers. What are your initial impressions of the Ultima 6? (Mine should be arriving next week, Covid permitting, ordered in early October!) .
Thanks. I love the Ultima! Fast, detailed and powerful and really musical. Itās a game changer for me and Iām sure youāll be happy. This is my dealerās whoās kindly let me keep it until mine has been built sometime in January. Super amp
Well done on the vinyl Yeti. The turntable is great. Besides the tone arm of course, particularly like the platter belt implementation.
No Naim anymore, what happened?
Your cabinet is screaming dead space. Anyway, it is only the 3rd day in the year and you are entitled to change your mind.
Shelve is looking very sturdy, but I am concerned about the glass.
I completely identify with you, fixed up the speaker for my parents and couldnāt even wait until morning but set them up for them the same day.
are you satisfied with the kudos speakers?
Iām not been aware of āhot melt glueā before. I assume the wires are soldered to the tabs on the tweeter and that the glue is there to stabilise the joint. Is that so? Did you replicate that on your replacement tweeters?
Iām interested to know to build a knowledge bank just in case the worst should happen to my NBLs.
Love the brickwork and fireplace.
Cool cat too.
Hot glue is very common on crossover circuit to hold the coil / inductors and capacitors down. Perhaps its because of the amount of vibration the board is subjected to constantly. Not so common on speaker terminals. They are usually soldered or connected using spade lugs afaik.
Congrats Yeti. Looks amazing. How does it sound now with NBL fitted in and new tweeters?
By the way. The magnet gap of your Schroeder is set to pretty narrow. Does it just look like that on the image? My is set to about 2mm.
Itās a long story. Started by changing the Hugo 2 for a TT 2 and then added the MScaler and the innuos boxes and the result was fantastic. However, in dac mode I felt there was too much juice for the 282 and in amp mode I felt it lost some of its sparkle and it didnāt feel quite right. I auditioned the Chord amp using the TT2 as a pre and it just all fell into place. Much more detail than with the Naim amp, faster, clearer and more realistic. Plus dropping from five amp boxes to one was a bonus too. The most enjoyable system Iāve ever had.
