Ha ha
John,
Love to hear your thoughts of the Aavik D-280 as compared to the Denafrips Terminator.
Which model KEFs are those Pete? I have the IQ3s in my office system, which are similarly designed, but these look shorter, but it might be perspective deceiving me.
They were part of a surround package, you got 4 speakers one centre chanel and sub. They’re branded Qcompact. Think I paid about $1,800 for them about 15 years ago. Made China, however they sound quite good driven by the Atom.
Of course the professionally custom built stands have a huge impact of there performance.
Have a chat to you know who
I think pair of lovely cherry nsats lying around
Go really well with the atom and core
Are you sure you’re not Norman in disguise.
Feel like it sometimes
Well, glad to see you were able to salvage some music while you are in transition! Enjoy!
Not my system Peter, but thanks…
Ah well, we can all dream and moving on from there ‘I’m clearly getting old’ MH Peter
Oh! You still have the moment in front of you when they unscrew the crate from south Africa. Enjoy. My girlfiend dont understand why I dont get rid of the empty crates My Vivid’s really started to sing after two weeks. Love them.
@SRO … I would really like to satisfy your request but I’m afraid I can’t …
In December 2021 I traded in a 252/scdr/300DR for an Aavik I280 (Integrated amp) … from an amplification perspective I did not miss the naim kit at all …
In February 2022 I bought the Aavik D280 (DAC) and traded out my Denafrips Terminator DAC …
A number of weeks later I traded my NDX for an Aavik S280 (Streamer) and all of my naim/WH Morgana cabling for Tellurium Ultra Silver … Digital and RCA …
There was such a short period of time between these swaps that I really cannot tell you the impact the individual components had on the system as a whole. I can only tell you that the overall impact has been quite stunning … and continues to get better …
One small experiment I’ve tried is to bypass the D280 and use the DAC in the S280 to provide the analog signal to the I280 … the experiment lasted about 20 minutes … the D280 as a separate unit is a rather large step up from the DAC in the S280 …
I’m sorry if this is of little help … Regards.
Thanks John.
Admin! A little less conversation, a lot more pics pretty please!
Yes, the opening of the crate will be exciting as it will be the first time I see how the colour I choose turned out on the speakers.
The Kaya 25 comes in a huge single crate with coasters at one end. You need to keep it as it’s about the only way to transport these odd shapes safely. It also helps to have it you ever want to sell them.
I’m listening to the demos for 3 months now and still gobsmacked how good they are.
How much does each speaker weigh?
24 KG each
Did you have something bigger in mind than the KEFs when you made those stands?
A friend rented an old Barcleys bank building in Cockermouth (Cumbria) some years back, before the shootings and floods made the news. His wife ran a health food shop on the ground floor and they lived in the very spacious flat above. The underground vault made a very good wine cellar.
No they were in storage so I had to guess, I did say I was a lousy carpenter.
