Okay, I’ll have to agree that the Qobuz hi-res Dark Side through the NDX2/555 beats the Rega Planar 3 Guthrie vinyl mix in all the usual hi-fi terms. But there is no escaping that the vinyl has a certain s’il vous plaît that just gets in to you.

Well I agree entirely of course.

Now onto The Final Cut on vinyl and a Friday ale.

Your dead right it is a fantastic combo. Had a mate over last night and playing ripped cds from my Core he was speechless. The system sounded better than I remembered, although there is a point (above normal listening levels) where my speakers do struggle. Thankfully at my listening level there’s no issues.

See some of my posts from earlier today. I do feel it’s just this record.

Can you send it back?

Just had a look and both Mrs Pete and I cant see anything wrong with it, I’m back in Sydney early August I’ll take it to my dealers and see if it’s any better.

@Bevo – although there is a 2003 CD/SACD master and release, there was no 2003 vinyl reissue. There was, however, one in 1997 as part of the EMI 100 series, a 2011 vinyl master by Doug Sax, and the latest which is by Jamies Guthrie, Bernie Grundman and Joel Plante.

Something is apparently planned for next year, on the album’s 50th birthday.

Well all I know is the label on the album cover says 2003 remaster

HH’s assumed role here is the hi-fi equivalent of Statler & Waldorf.

For the uninitiated: Statler and Waldorf are a pair of Muppet characters best known for their cantankerous opinions and shared penchant for heckling. The two elderly men first appeared in The Muppet Show in 1975, where they consistently jeered the entirety of the cast and their performances from their balcony seats. [Wikipedia]

Of course, the show wouldn’t have been the same without them. Likewise for this forum & HH.

Ha ha. Great analogy……i am sure when our Forum chair Richard is scouring the forum entries over his breakfast cornflakes, the Muppets will come to mind from time to time. As we have found when Nigel took a sabbatical the forum was not as enjoyable or as useful for those that needed guidance.

Why is he having his cornflakes so late in the evening.

Well HH aside, I’m not sure I want to be part of a community that condones rudeness and disrespect to someone who was being friendly to you just because you happen to disagree with a suggestion they make. There are certain widely accepted social norms where I come from and those include being polite to people who are friendly to you. If you think that sort of behaviour is OK then that’s up to you. I have higher standards and more respect for myself.

FWIW, I agree that HH oversteps the mark at times, but mostly he seems to enjoy being contrarian / cantankerous for the hell of it. It’s really no skin off my nose if he doesn’t like my speaker stands.

And as any comedian knows, the best response is to heckle the heckler – as others here often do.

It’s only internet banter, not the European Court of Human Rights.

System pic anyone?

Fair enough - if you want to accept being treated like that as I said it’s up to you. But I don’t have to and I won’t.

I would much rather be labelled a ‘grumpy old man’ than an ill-mannered so-and-so who doesn’t respect people.

You must admit the Forum does get pretty boring at times with a seemingly endless race to get new stuff and cooing over each others’ purchase of wholly unnecessary nick nacks. A bit more cantankerousness wouldn’t be a bad thing sometimes. People get far too uptight and and would probably benefit from taking things a bit less seriously.
