System Pics 2022

Unfortunately, I never did get to hear the Bow amps, but I’m sure I would have loved them.

For many years I used the Primare 928 pre & 928 monoblocks which were also designed by Bo Christensen just before he founded Bow Technologies. I actually bought my monoblocks from Bo himself, and he then managed to find me the matching 928 pre-amp (which was incredibly rare) from a dealer friend of his in Denmark. He also offered to sell me his own Bow Wizard CD player at a very good price ,but I just couldn’t afford it at the time.

I remember him being rather disparaging about the direction Primare took when they ‘sold out’ and moved from Denmark to new owners in Sweden. At the time, the new owners wanted to move to what he felt were budget and run of the mill products rather than continue to concentrate on the high-end (and expensive) products in which the Danish Primare specialised. As a result he decided to leave Primare and found Bow Technologies.

The Primare 928 combo gave me many years of pleasure up until I sold them a dozen or so years ago.

Some interesting background on Primare, thanks!

I’ve always fancied trying a valve amp, looks lovely Chris.

Thanks, interesting view on Bo Christensen’s designs. I think that the brand Bow is currently owned by the same group owning PrimaLuna, headed by Herman van den Dungen.

I did. I bought a PrimaLuna EVO 100, push-pull of EL34s, 40 wpc. I think it’s a lovely kind of presentation and something that can be happily experienced in one’s audio life, provided you have sensitive speakers. At worst, you’ll love it and keep it…

Great looking system zipperheadbanjo. I also love the framed Grateful Dead themed art on the walls above and next to the system.

Beautiful!

I had the ZZ Eight CD-Player and ZZ-One integrated for many years and it provided many hours of pleasurable listening. The integrated, like most, perhaps all, with a passive input stage lacked some punch, which led me to look elsewhere. I surely found others with different strenghts, but keep returning to the One. My second was actually bought from Bo himself, shortly before he sold Bow to the Dutch company owning Prima Luna and Kiseki among others. My third and current is a late “Bentley silver”, bought virtually unused from Greece. Still sounding slighly dull, perhaps speakers with a higher sensitivity, like @anon96879789 uses…

My first Wazoo drove a pair of Marten Design Miles II loudspeakers. They are not over-sensitive and sport the renown Accuton ceramic drivers. They are not designed to be ‘fun’, but to have extremely low distortion. With the Bow their presentation wasn’t anything like a pair of Klipsches, but what finesse, what clarity. A beautiful soundstage. Not the feeling of being there, perhaps, but surely great pleasure.

The powerstation is next level stuff!

First time I’ve seen those QRT QVIBE’s in action. Worth it?

Love the speakers

Thanks, I love them too. Not perfect, but able to make honest, full music. There must be a reason why they have been selling for 65 years…
They’re version III though; I’ve only been making music for 55 and am still at version I.

I’d be tempted, if you’ve no other option than to sit the Hicap DR on the SN3, is to place it to the right rather than the left.
