Living in Birmingham have fond memories of listening to John Peel 2 hours on Saturday afternoons sat in my dad’s car because it sounded better than my portable radio.
Neighbour once asked if I had fallen out with family.
These are nice MkI Kans, unmolested and original. Owned from new by my late father and passed on to me a few years ago by my mum…
I do indeed have NACA5 - I previously had Chord Epic Twin but the Naim cables were a marked improvement on those. I am not familiar with the ones you mention but will keep an eye out. Thanks for the tip!
Oh yes they look the business - I remember first hearing the Kans on the end of a Planar2 (A&R C77 cart) and Naim Nait when I took a trip to Loughborough for my first proper dem at Sound Advice sometime in the mid 80’s! Bought the Rega - rest of my first system was bought a tad closer to home in Nottingham - sad to say when I went back some years later they’d gone!
Ps love the racking - is that a “No Naim Frame” great idea
They are currently in system 4 doing light bedroom music duty to keep the drivers ticking over.
Their replacements are at the other end of the speaker spectrum, Tannoy Cheviots, and just as satisfying.
I might switch them into system 3 with my old Nait 3 and Rega RP3 which is very similar to the setup you enjoyed.
The chap with his speakers on the amps has given me the courage to post my own somewhat compromised position wise but great sounding system.
Very nice actually. Well done.
And, excuse my ignorance, but what are your speakers?
All is well, ovator s-400
What make is the rack?
And tell us more about the Firebird!
Coda racks
Nice Firebird
I’ve posted a system pic earlier in the year but have added a pre loved XPS 2 which powers the nDac since then and thought the addition of the Daffodils and the Spring sunshine made for a more arty picture.
Daffodils would be nice, but tulips are good too.
A fairly light mahogany body, glossy nitrocellulose varnish, a through-through red neck with a Soloist profile (I don’t know why they called it that, if we speak in more familiar words, it is closer to slim, thin), a standard beaker of 24.75. Thanks to the through-neck and light body, this beauty has an insanely powerful attack and a dense sustain. The iconic Gibson 500T and 496R sensors were put on this model - they are more familiar to Gibson in general (especially often you can meet them on the Expander and Flying V) than like the standard Firebird model, and they were placed in a chrome frame, which looks very stylish, well, the classic thoroughbred Gibson sound is provided. Gforce pegs, which allow you to quickly reinstall the tool in different formations, well, or just maintain a certain one, and they may well work like ordinary pegs. Titanium sill, which can be easily lifted up/down. Well, the awesome design of the New version, where the usual elements are made in chrome, and everything is in moderation - restrained and stylish. In general, an easy and practical tool that is ideal for both home games and active studio and concert activities.
That’s why I know nothing about flowers!!
Very nice - I didn’t notice that it didn’t have the usual mini-humbuckers found in Firebirds.
I have a friend who has one; they are really nice, but their proportions and my non-supinating left wrist mean I can’t play them easily in the first position.
I bet it is a great-sounding piece!
Looks lovely. Love the colour contrast
May I ask, what are your speakers sitting on?
