Thanks @frenchrooster , I’m still going to have my Atom/server with headphones for a while, so I won’t be without.
Pick yourself up a nice second hand pair of mini monitors to tie you over, you can sell them at the end. You can have a lot of fun with an Atom and a pair of falcons or proacs or whatever. Small speakers can be really satisfying.
The time will pass by very quickly and you might find you don’t have that much time to do anything but focus on your build
Think this was 15 months from buying the land to being able to use.
Know the feeling. My stuff went into storage 20 years ago for 8 years. Would have saved myself a fortune if I had left it there.
Just been sent a link to a pair of Kans in the Bay. £7.50 yes you read that right - only trouble is they look a little battle worn!
These are not the Kans you are looking for.
Mkv’s and messed about with.
I know but all I saw to begin with was price and then Linn Kan’s - then I looked more closely! Never mind!
It is good. Better sound than the Node 2i plus qutest. It is playing into the 252 study system.
There is a downside though for me. I bought it primarily to synch the radio in two rooms. The Aries is the master and I can group the Aries plus Altair and synch them. When I add the Vega as a dac to the Aries, the Vega buffers the input and creates a 50 ms ( minimum) delay on the output. The Vega output and the Altair is then out of synch. I can get round this by using the Vega as a streamer and dac ( upgraded Altair mode) and there is no internal buffering. The two outputs are then in synch.
It seems that I will use the Vega plus Altair for daytime listening as I wander around the house, and the Aries plus Vega in dac only mode when I’m sitting down in the evening and listening to my own selection.
First post on the System Pics thread - I’ve been enjoying the thread for so long now I thought it only right.
New addition is the Palmer with PU7 which I went for instead of the Solstice (the reasons I didn’t buy the Solstice I already posted on another thread) and I have no regrets whatsoever. It is an absolutely wonderful table and the PU7 complements it brilliantly. Maybe not one for fans of slim, unobtrusive platters though
I’ll post some more pictures and thoughts about the Palmer on the Show me your Turntable thread.
how big is the basement . My set up is my tanked basement . How do you think the 808 sound down there. Have you a tall ceiling ?
Is that the North East of Scotland?
Yup
Lovely system @Sten . I used to have Hawks. Great speakers. Looks like you’re using NACA5 speaker cable. Have you tried Mogami 2972 or Kudos KS-1?
I found Mogami a substantial and consistent improvement in a variety of Naim/Shahinian systems.
You may hear things differently, but if you get a chance to hear these alternatives I’d recommend trying them.

Ferguson Studio 6. I got one of these in October 1976, ‘Albert Hall Quality’ the man at Rumbelows said to my dad. It was quite a thrill to hear my LPs in glorious stereo for the first time. The cassette was always a bit disappointing. Recordings of FM radio (mainly John Peel Sessions, ‘In Concert’ or programmes like Alan Freeman and ‘Sounds Interesting’ with Derek Jewell) were never quite as vibrant as the original. Still, it was great. I still like the compactness of those music centres. Wish I had kept more of those tapes!
Hi,
why did you put an acoustic panel inside a huge turquoise sock?
Best

I managed by Xmas 76 to have saved up enough money, with added Xmas money. I remember the day I went to buy it, and feeling cheated when told I would have to wait for delivery. I was so excited the day it came, carefully removing all the packaging. I remember cueing up that first record “Funky Junction plays a tribute to Deep Purple.” It certainly felt like I was living the dream, never been as excites since with any hifi purchase. I spent many a happy Saturday afternoon, either in bath with radio or laid on bed listening to Studio 6 to Alan Freeman. I remember the classic little music segments he used to play between songs “Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends” and “Still there’s always Saturday - Saturday, Saturday makes the week”, as well as all the classical snippets. Very happy days
Yes indeed, remember the smell of the boxes and plastic when it was new. Saturday afternoons, sometimes after the morning listening to records, or cycling to go and buy one. Late night midweek sometimes if I was recording a Peel session! Wasn’t easy to stop and start accurately with the cassette buttons! Remember the classical links on the Saturday show and the excitement if a new album was featured by a favourite band or session track (or ‘Tony Wilson Recreation’). Also remember the sound coming alive on FM when the bright red stereo light came on. Fortunately we lived in an area with decent reception. Happy days!!
The ‘Studio 6’ became basic separates eventually and the start of the slippery slope.
Especially remember the Saturday show, Alan Freeman played in full Presence by Led Zeppelin on its release. It was like having your own Orgasmatron ( Sleeper - Woody Allen film).
