System Pics 2022

Brilliant!

Lovely system! I bought my first real hifi from Lyric’s Dublin branch in the 90s.

Naim, Spendor, B&W… some of the best from this Fair Isle… but it’s still not easy to knit together a seamless system like this, it takes skill and inventiveness… like the other day when I needed to cable stitch a couple of lengths of A5 together when repositioning the speakers…
Anyway enough of this old yarn… time for me to cast off…

Hello akohli, Thanks for your message and your comment on my system. Since joining the Naim Community a few months ago, I have been struck by the number of comments which refer to the dealers who supply equipment and advice. I do like on-line shopping, in a general sense, but, in hi-fi, the face-to-face setting with a trusted dealer is still really important. Brian D.

Celebrating your birthday &, possibly, retirement?

Do I see 2 subs there?

That was LAST years birthday, the cards act as cat repulsars!

Nice thought - I have been slowly cutting down on the work front …but family pressures keep taking up the slack!

…and one behind me.

Large B&K tied into the SBLs, the front M&J tied into the Axxess, another M&J tied into my rear Focal Domes.

Means I can do without bass management with my Lexicon processor, beyond the Dirac.

I still envy you. I’ll be 67 in September & my 60th is already too fast becoming a distant memory!

You should be named MrElephant :joy:

They are my wife’s obsession, but very apt with the sub!

I have a theory in this:

Each new year is a smaller fraction of your life to date and so it would appear to be ‘shorter’ hence the perceived acceleration.

It’s been a couple of years since I last posted in this thread, and things have moved along quite a bit since then. Back then I had an NDX, Supernait 2, HiCap and Neat SX2 speakers. We’ve since moved house and I now have a dedicated listening room. We spent 12 months completely renovating the new place before we moved in. So I took the opportunity to have a dedicated mains feed that’s split just after the meter via a Henley block. I then have a dedicated consumer unit with three 10mm radial circuits into three unswitched MK Logic double sockets.

The amplification was then upgraded to a NAC282, NAP250 DR with the HiCap and NAPSC, speakers were also upgraded to Neat Ekstra’s.

The sound was pretty awful to start with, most likely due to the fact that the floor is suspended over a large cellar. I invested in some GIK room treatment which did a great job of taming much of the issues. A couple of months later I invested in a set of IsoAcoustics Gaia III’s. The impact these had on the SQ was nothing short of spectacular, without doubt the best £400 I’ve spent on HIFI.

In December 21 I purchased a third party power supply that replaces two HiCaps and a NAPSC along with their own version of the XPS (both pre-owned). Since then I’ve upgraded the speakers to Naim Ovator S-400’s, swapped the 282 for a 252 and purchased a third party SuperCap.

I couldn’t be happier with where I am now. The 282 is a fantastic pre amp, but the 252 is just sublime as far as I am concerned. Also buying good quality pre-owned electronics coupled with the fact that Naim equipment tends to hold its value very well has meant the steps I’ve made haven’t been too painful financially.
