Bit of a shuffle round. Removed the B77 from display.
Supercap powering Superline out of duty while I continue to investigate the 120hz hum issue
Love the turntable.
I really enjoy this thread so thought I should contribute a picture of my electronics and (one of) the speakers. The electronics are on a Fraim in a cavity between a bench seat and the short wall and the speakers are on the opposite side of the room against the long wall (which is mostly glass). The newest additions are the yellow mat on the turntable (inspired by @anon4489532’s Rega) and an Ania Pro cartridge (inspired by an insurance payout and a mishap to the previous Ania).
That yellow mat is lovely, and the shadow on the speaker is great too. That’s the best colour for Sopras for sure. My current Rega has just a boring standard white mat, far less funky than yellow.
Sometimes bright colour distracts though and on the P10 probably the star of the show (visually anyway) is the ceramic platter and the skeletal plinth.
From my perspective, that looks very nice.
I’ll get me coat.
Every time I see this, I have fond memories of my Rega Planar 3 from the 1980’s. Parents weren’t happy that I spent my entire first months wages on it. It was a great bit of kit. Happy days!
And they are still great value today, from the 1 to the 10. I ordered an original 3 in late 1978, when queues were really long. It took so long that by February 1979 I’d saved up enough for an LP12 with the original S shaped Rega arm, made by Acos if I recall, so I got that instead. I saved up from my job at B&Q that I did before university. As you say, those were the days.
It’s a funny thing really. Many of us are now lucky to be able to afford very nice things, Hifi and otherwise. Back then, I didn’t have two ha’pennies to rub together. That made the Rega purchase all the more satisfying and gave me probably more emotional attachment to it than any bit of Hifi I’ve ever owned. I’m off vinyl now, but if I were buying a turntable I would definitely look again at the Rega range.
…from that perspective you couldn’t see the rest of the crap lying around our lounge!
Love those orange Sopras! Thanks for posting.
So, when is the bake off???
A friend is going through a major upgrade process during which he got in a Luxman 590 Class A integrated, this thing was excellent, especially with the Avalon PM1s. It had to be returned to the dealer, who had been generous with the time, before the listening was complete. A Luxman 700 pre/power arrived, the hope that the 590’s sound signature would be retained with some more detail & power …errr, unfortunately not.
Next up was a pair of Brystons which were excellent and purchased. However, the 590 was not to be dislodged from my friends brain. Although not as detailed and powerful it made music and so an ex-dem 590 has been purchased and his Vitus will be sold.
I LOVE the 590/PM1 combo, it sings, even with poorly recorded fare. Shame Luxman are stopping Class A SS amp production.
A new, brighter day is dawning in our household… although I seem to be over-subscribed in the speaker dept… one pair will have to go … I wonder which?
Hi, … How’s your Nait5si? I have it too and I’m super happy and happy with it so much that I never decide to change for an XS3! … I really like the sound of 5si …
I’m very happy with it, plug play and forget about it. Paired with the Node it’s a much cheaper alternative to an Atom or Star too
I vote the one you pike less.
