System Pics 2023

Have you ripped any CDs yet with the Core? If so, has it been able to find the metadata? I transferred my entire CD library from my former server onto the Core and have since ripped a few new CDs, none of which have been found. I’d be interested to know your success rate. Thanks.

The speakers here are in different color

Thanks for sharing! I also have the Nova and I’m really tempted to get the Core… so many CDs that are not on streaming!

Enjoy

Why not just get a NAS and rip them on your computer? It will sound just as good for a fifth of the price.

We thought that, but tested the theory. I tested rips on my Mac against rips on a Core before shipping the latter to Tasmania.

I could not reliably pick between Core rips and the same CD on a CDS2. My girlfriend is more musical and has younger ears, and on some CDs she could just maybe discern some difference.

I, she and everyone who tried the comparison agreed that the rips on the Mac were fine for playing on i-Phone and earbuds, but not even nearly as good as Core rips on the proper hi-fi - a bit harsh and a bit dull and not very foot-tapp-y.

I cannot tell you why that was, or why any CD transport can sound better than others. Fortunatly, I don’t need to know why.

The Core is the best bit of kit I have ever bought for my system so imo unless cost is an issue go for it.

Not necessarily!

My modest setup. Recently moved out an XS 2 and moved in an SN 2 along with a Hicap DR.

Yes it’s been fine so far. Tbh I’ve only ripped a few because most of my collection was already on an external drive that I had plugged into the USB on the back of my Nova. I merely imported them as FLACS with meta data from DB poweramp. I have found it takes a few days after a cd release before metadata appears on the Core though.

Thanks for your reply. The albums I have ripped have all been around for a while. The most recent was Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells 50th Anniversary.

Computers are incredibly noisy, both audibly and through noise transferral electrically. There are ways to deal with that and one of them is to use a dedicated music server designed for the task. Don’t let the 0’s and 1’s naysayers dissuade you from trying, it’s not as simple as that. They are from the same group that say cholesterol causes heart disease. Do your own research and let your ears decide.

I’m not sure that cholesterol is remotely relevant, but what is the Core if it isn’t a computer? Does it have magical powers?

Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Concert Grand… nice to see here (I use VA Hadyn and like the house sound). Vienna Acoustics speakers are not so common in Naim forum. Do you like the Beethoven?

A Core is a music centre, not a computer. Good luck in googling something on your Core.:rofl::rofl:
