Are you using Selekt as a streamer/DAC or with inbuilt amp as an all-in- one? Reason I’m asking is that the Linn DACs, particularly the new Organik, are great but I have just never been impressed by their SMPS amps. At 50W would be interested to hear how it gets on with the Dynaudios. Let us know how it goes
I use my Katalyst Selekt as a pre/streamer with a 200 Series NAP250. I have the amp modules as well, used it as such in a 5.1 setup previously and as a 2 channel integrated, as flexible a box as you could ever need.
I have a plan to eventually do a dual mono Organik setup and ideally run that as a source only in to a NAC332, gives me a few years to tinker through ahead of me
While I agree 100% with you, the rub is “finding a good one”. Most Ittoks are 30-40 years old now. “Linn tight” was the ruling mantra in those days and I don’t think many owners would actually remove the arm to replace a cartridge. So, as always, “Caveat Emptor”!!!
Yes but the main difference being the bass drivers changing
Selekt Baisc not the edition Version, DAC is katalyst
Yes the drivers changing was important but the veneer made an unexpected and accidental difference.
There are MKII versions with and without the Hornslett cabinets, but they all have the updated drivers. The Hornslett cabinet is the icing on the cake.
Looks fantastic
Great system Alexey.
One thing - you have the shelves on your Quadraspire rack upside down. They are designed to work best with the sloping edge the other way up. If you look at some pictures on-line you’ll see what I mean.
Thanks @anon55098131.
I know about this, I was in a hurry during assembly.
I will definitely fix everything.
By the way, you are the first to notice this
Now this looks like a place to sit down and listen as much music as you like to.
Lovely room Monkey. I especially like the lighting.
Super space…
Have you also tested the selekt with the integrated power amplifiers, if so, how do the 250s stand out? I have one and could also use it, but I can’t get it connected to the test device
Absolutely lovely room and system.
From your profile I see that this is one hell of an expensive and extremely capable system. Absolutely no expense spared on cables etc.
I have to ask you. Why the choice of support furniture? I see that some units appear stacked. Did you try a dedicated rack or racks such as Fraim - and decided that there was no worthwhile improvement? Or did you choose the furniture on aesthetic grounds - or indeed does it sound better than Fraim?! Thanks.
Hi @anon55098131
I have used Fraim before and found it made a good sonic improvement, but my wife doesn’t like its looks for a living room, so either I banish myself to another space or find another solution. Stillpoints worked very well for me, and there’s a big selection that all sound different under different Naim bits. I found the more expensive and esoteric Stillpoints with greater isolation worked much better under the power supplies than the internally sprung source and preamp, for example.
Honestly I don’t know if Fraim would be better, the cost of Stillpoints is probably not far off Fraim anyway and they allow me to listen in the living room!
Also the furniture allowed the four Naim boxes to sit so nothing is above anything else and the more horizontal layout means no cables touch the floor or hang done behind the cabinet which looks tidy. I have a four box limit too. That’s been in force ever since I had my SN3, which sort of led to the active ATCs.
Thanks for that. I thought I spotted what looked like Stillpoints!
Domestic harmony is all-important of course. Much nicer to listen in the living room together than to banish yourself to a separate room IMO.
Thats a Fantastic Looking room👌
A very beautiful cozy room and great system Jim.
(Sorry for my English)
Not sure I follow what you’re asking here exactly!
I originally got the Selekt to replace an Arcam AV amp and to use it as a 5.1 integrated. I later used it as a 2 channel integrated and now as a source/preamp using the Line Out Module and XLR to XLR in to the NC NAP250.
The NAP250 is easily a better amp than the Linn Selekt modules but I was happy with it at the time as an integrated. The Selekt has a more neutral/laidback presentation vs for example a NSC222, which I felt came on song with the NPX300 added.
It replaced a SN3 + NDX2 based setup, I did a swap for those for the NAP250 and relocated the Selekt from my office and changed the module to a Line Out.
The old setup was good but was a bit overpowering for the room, the Selekt also has Linn’s Space Optimisation that allows for tuning to the room, with overall positive results.
As I mentioned previously I intended to further refine the Selekt as a source and eventually add a Naim preamp back in to the mix.
