Nice system, good photos but how anyone can live with Focal Sopra 2 speakers, I just don’t know! Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but, as has been said on this forum before, it would be like having a couple of daleks living with you!!
Excellent juxtaposition with your staircase
I don’t know what you mean, but I feel so good. sooner or later I’ll hear some other speakers, but unfortunately in Italy it’s not so easy to make home demos. then of course, you can always change ………
Daleks were a fictional extraterrestrial race of mutants that first appeared in the 1960s in the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who. I am old fashioned and personally prefer box-like speakers.
Nice rack!
I searched for it on the internet and found it. think that I chose them precisely because in addition to playing well I liked them aesthetically and my wife likes them too
One can never underestimate WAF in a system.
Those Sibbles must be unique. I’ve never seen another pair with that veneer. Very nice they are!
System as 2022 - Rega RP6 / UnitiQute2 / Nait2, now with MK1 Rega Elas (love those flutes!) switched in to replace the MA R-252. Plus, the Quadraspire shelves refinished in dark grey. The Nait2 and Elas make for a very simple, yet effective period correct pairing that seem to add up to more than the sum of their parts - nice synergy there.
Upgrades in 2023? I’m not too optimistic, as child No1 is now at University, and there’s a pending house renovation too. Fingers crossed I can still hold on to my upgrade stash for future system changes.
And finally some gratuitous Nait-age!
Never
Did you use a protractor to mount your 2M Black or did you do it by ear?
They’re 1991 vintage in dark oak veneer, i acquired them in 2008 as the 2nd owner.
It is strange they seem rare, and oddly my first pair of SBLs, purchased new in 1993 (and sold on in 97) came in a light oak veneer, and we don’t see them around either.
It would be interesting to know how many SBLs were made, and how many are left.
Moin RLI,
I am utterly sorry for my clumsy setup skills displeasing your critical eyes. Embarrassingly I couldn’t do any better. Your mindful insight is much appreciated, thank you and bless your heart
Dialled in by ear through trial and error, and only came on song properly when I added an extra 2mm Rega shim. This was after tearing my hair out and I eventually ended up contacting Ortofon directly, who were incredibly helpful, and advised that a 4mm shim gave the best results with the 2M Black on a Rega table. Prior, it really emphasised surface noise and any flaws on the record. It’s brilliant now, and can finally understand its glowing reputation and the plaudits. It’s not an easy fit though.
The Sopra 2s work well in your modern surroundings snd the colours pick out the wood accents of your furniture well. You get some people on here who can make hurtful comments about your prized possessions. They normally don’t like it if you say that there system looks ugly! Or more normally they don’t post system pics of their own!
I don’t think that persons comments were worth replying to. It says more about them than your wonderful set up. Unfortunately some people are haters in this world!
Your Ela Mk1s look in really good condition, I have a very tatty-looking pair in my bedroom, fed by the unitilite, for such a modest system it sounds great and I put that down to the Ela Mk1s. They worked really well with my 32.5 hi-cap and 140 too. Really should get smaller speakers for the bedroom but think it would cost a fortune to get something nearly as good.
I’m happy with my system and my speakers, both how they sound and how they feel in my home. unfortunately when you don’t have a dedicated environment you have to find a compromise and I think I was able to do well. if someone doesn’t like it, I don’t take offense, everyone has their own tastes. anyway I’m glad you like it. thank you
Agree, they sound very good indeed and are criminally undervalued and overlooked on the used market, as are all Rega speakers generally. I am the second owner of these particular Elas and other than a few tiny marks here and there, they are in lovely condition. The previous owner really looked after them.
