System Pics 2024

Beautiful room indeed, but how far is it to walk to the nearest pub ?

Probably too far.

Gorgeous system! So sorry you have to slum it in a room like that with such a lousy view!!!

Actually I didn’t think rooms like this, with that kind of view, actually existed outside of interior design magazine photo-shoots!

Joking aside, looks lovely.

I feel your pain. About 6 years ago I posted this on the forum.

Naim with kids.

It gets better. I’ve never bothered protecting the hifi but they haven’t touched it yet.

Oddly enough, the main system has undergone zero changes in the time unless you count a different speaker cable,

How did you do it? Mine need some refreshing! Thanks.

Haha, That was an anodizing fault and affected 5 boxes. All fascias replaced since then. I have the pink ones in the garage. You know, in case I want a shocking pink 282 again.

I always found it wasn’t my children that would be the issue, was always the friends. Worst speakers I ever had for attracting unwanted interest were B&W 805N’s, the top mounted tweeter tube looked too much like a microphone. If the grills were off (unplanned visitors!) twice found small toys hidden in the front port flares and wondered what the low frequency buzz was when playing bass lines.

Oh you need to hang this over the hifi

My kids know there is a sort of psychological equivalent over the hifi in their imagination. So effective, that the kids do not even touch the Naim Qbs they have in their bedrooms!

The Naim logo just instils fear in them. Like a Pavlov’s dog scenario almost.

I collected quite a collection of marbles from one of my loudspeakers. I was quite satisfied with my hearing since I detected it based on a different sound of the loudspeakers

With a previous pair I’ve had to open them up to retrieve a toy. I then put a stocking around the port to prevent such “accidents” from happening again.

Any better half accepting that text is absolute top class!

IME, it’s actually adults who try to yank the ‘microphones’ off the top of B&W speakers. I’m sure it’s responsible for at least 10% of my grey hairs.

As for unscheduled deliveries to the reflex ports, it’s definitely worth keeping the foam bungs B&W supply - they say it’s to control the bass response, but I always think of them as being employed to control the children’s response.

Fortunately my daughters are both in their early 20’s now but in a complete reversal I remember the look of pride on one of their friends who I entrusted to be in charge of the turntable and vinyl when there was a gathering and we were heading out.

Although I do think the enormity of the responsibility then suddenly hit him after the wave of pride had washed away. Not so much him directly, more the collection of friends he was now having to manage.

It’s an imaginary sign and totally circumstantial I assure you. The kids see how careful I am with the hifi and they know they are clumsy and break most things they touch. So the fear comes from within. I’ve never told them not to touch the hifi or that it is off limits.
