Too bad that you are having to rough it
Normal service resumed. Using an ongoing game of monopoly to scatter some bass resonance. I find the pokemon edition has a slightly warmer timbre
I remember the joy of loading Tomb Raider 1 via CD onto my company laptop , the height of sophistication. Later I got a PlayStation and loaded subsequent Tomb Raider games and connected it to my Nait 3 , the sounds of Lara’s Uzis thru a Naim amp was something Julian Vereker never imagined.
Just put system 1s speaker on system 2 for fun. You wouldn’t think it would work but sounds great!
…. And it looks very nice in your room. Enjoy!
The simplicity of your system is attractive — difficult not to see it!
I cannot help but think that Naim and Focal are missing the trick. Worse — how is POSSIBLE that these two haven’t yet thrown Naim powered active Focal speakers into the market? They seem to live a good old-fashioned Roman Catholic marriage of convenience: share the table but not the bed…
There is the new Focal Diva of course, but that’s got the source and preamp in the speakers as well as the active power amps. In terms of straightforward active speakers I agree, it seems an obvious thing to do. I’m sure it will come, and indeed Naim have been using Class D in the Nova PE. PMC have been making active speakers in their pro range for ages, so are hugely experienced. I find it incredible that they have squeezed an analogue crossover and two 100W power amps into such a small space.
I don’t get it. There are leads going to the speakers - surely they’re speaker leads.
He meant a cable that carries an amplified speaker signal. These are in effect volume controlled line level cables form the Atom’s preout.
Looks very ‘Neat’ indeed.
The Chord TToby seemed to me to be an almost perfect match for the Uniti HE. Not many amps are smaller.
I get the joke though…
I did wonder what the Chord was - what do you think of it as an amplifier?
The only comparison I have is to my Pass Labs XP12/Perreaux 350 combo. When I put the TToby in instead of the Perreaux there is a subtle loss of transparency and bass drive. But still a very pleasant listen. (meanwhile the Perreaux is twenty times bigger…) It seems about at the level of the Uniti HE - for price, size and sound! I think it has been replaced now though.
They are interconnects rather than speaker cables but yes, maybe it’s splitting hairs. They are a lot cheaper than speaker cables though.
Wherever there’s elasticity about technicalities, profits take over and cunningness wins…
That’s a great photo… Lovely setup
Interesting. It’s certainly a very compact chassis. The 350 on the other hand looks to be quite a beast! I think you are correct that Ttoby is no longer current - it has been replaced BerTTi power amplifier.
This side of the room now finished so the boxes are back where they belong. Minus a few centimetres of dust.
I’ve turned the room around. Now the speakers are on the long wall, a new sofa is comfortably facing music and trees, the wallpapered wall is unobtrusively lateral instead of in the face.
Glass is not an issue, it’s thick, non resonant and there are curtains. The triangle speakers/listening position has been suggested by my friend Chris and works well.
System is:
Thorens TD145/AT/StageLine (SL is powered by the dedicated out of the FC).
TEAC VRDS-9
Nait XS/FlatCap (the FC has been ‘upgraded’ at the official servicing lab, let’s say that it’s now like two small HCDRs)
Vertere PulseX mini speaker leads.
IBLs.
All ICs are lavenders, professionally adapted to the requested sockets.
Power leads have been trimmed to the minimal length and no two wires touch each other.
