That explains it then.

Well, if no one opens one by the time my Boulder shows up next week, I might get it started. But I imagine there will be pages of a new thread by then.

Congrats!. I do hope my rosinni will be delivered too by first or second week of Jan 2025 ! Let’s do the countdown :pray:t2::smile:

Hi Mario,

Re: your question about how to mount ATC HTS11 in the overhead position in truth I’m not sure yet!! As you know they are wall mountable so I can make it work by just mounting them high up on the side walls but really they should be angled so as to fire downward.

I have been pondering something like this K&M ceiling/wall mount but I have also said to Ben Lilley, ATC’s venerable sales manager, that they really should develop something bespoke for their speakers for ceiling mount Atmos applications. I don’t think it’s a priority for them though right now sadly.

Dr Mark, sorry for the delayed reply re: the record holder - it’s been a crazy busy week! It’s quite simple really to make. It’s an Ikea Kallax 4 section and a Kallax 2 section. The 2 section has to be cut down to be half depth and is then laid on its back on top of the 4 section and glued. I was planning to fit some flat plates to the rear and sides to add strength to the mounting but so far it seems very solid just with glue. I did leave it to set for 24 hours in some clamps just to make sure before I started using it.

I was lucky that I have a luthier friend who did the cutting for me, as that needs to be pretty accurate for a good finish. I left out the centre support in the top section of the 4 section Kallax so it would take my record cleaning machine but then realised I could replace it with some of the half depth offcuts from the 2 section Kallax just to reinforce the top of the 4 section Kallax to take the weight of the records on it. It wasn’t showing any signs of strain or sagging but I think it’s worthwhile if like me you wanted to put something like a record cleaner in there.

I have to say that it’s really encouraged me to play vinyl since I made it. I’ve basically put all my most recently purchased and most played vinyl in there covering rock, classical, audiophile pressings and some jazz. Having it all to hand and easy to find while being separate from the main vinyl collection has made it feel much more accessible somehow.

I’m very new to collecting jazz but have been on a bit of a buying spree over the last couple of weeks so while the record cabinet was cheap to make (about £75 all in) starting my jazz collection has been more expensive!!

Just taken delivery of Oscar Peterson’s “We get requests” on Acoustic Sounds Verve and it’s fab!

Looking forward to Jan 1, I’ve been cleaning up the bookshelves for the photo … well the real reason is that there was 3 years of dust and it urgently needed some cleaning.

Think you’ll be in the market for some more racks soon. What’s the black box next to the 500 power amp on the top?

Does the manufacturer of the rack make taller shelves so that you can put the larger power amp down towards the bottom of the rack.

My dealer always advised to stack in the order of the largest transformer at the bottom, working upwards to the smallest.

Long term curiosity to compare MM cart directly into SN3 led to a switch around which has led to a cart connector spade falling off, so needs some work that is beyond these hands.

Unfortunately my P3 has shorter leads than my RP6 so can’t reach the SN from the TT shelf, so in need for some vinyl tunes have moved the Aria closer and using its MM section.

Well out of the adversity I may have found the source of the issue in that the connector onto the Ania may have been the cause of more noise via the Aria than should be expected.

So now the P3 with AT740ML via Aria into SN and totally silent when cracked up and not playing.

New turntables were on the agenda for Jan so will leave the P3 in place (it’s sounding superb) and sort the repair out when looking at P8, Technics Sl1300/1210 GR2 and Denon DP300One.

Was thinking the Aria is maybe noisy, but certainly via its MM stage it’s totally silent.

This has now meant I can actually get to my preferred layout of the CDX2.2 and SN3 next to each other.

Will also target a new streamer to replace the Ifi xen stream, their software is just so annoying, nothing like the rock solid Wiim.
