System Pics 2025

The HRS R3X 17" x 19" base I have is 25.5 lbs (11.6 kg). I might use that in the future for the Boulder phono and get the S3 model for the turntable, which is 40.8 lbs (18.5 kg).

I noticed something unexpected moving my turntable from the brain stack over to the brawn stack. It sounds better. The bass is better and more refined, and there is more air and inner detail in the whole range, with an improvement to soundstage. I wasn’t really expecting that and even wondered at first if it might be worse, since it’s closer to the speaker.

It dawned on me this morning why that may be. The brawn rack is loaded with more mass. It has four full-chassis PSUs (300PS, XPS-DR and two SCDR), 49.7 kg vs 35.4 kg on the brain stack, about 40% more. I think that helps provide better isolation.

There are entire threads about what to put under your LP12.

Fwiw, the old advice to keep it “light and rigid” still seems to me dead right, after many experiments.

People here often report good sound from a LP12 on top of the glass (and cups and balls) of a Naim Fraim - as long as the floor is not too bouncy of course.

We tried mine on those bits on my wall shelf instead of a Fraim. I don’t recommend that others try that too quickly - Fraim parts may work together, but not in isolation.

On my Target wall shelf, the standard shelf under the turntable is tatty MDF from the 90s. We replaced it with 2 sorts of glass, with granite, with a solid butcher’s block, with glass supported by HRS Nimbus feet and various combinations of those things and more.

With my old LP12 (standard at that point apart from having its baseboard removed, a worthwhile upgrade for no money, plus newish Linn feet), all of that was clearly worse than the MDF board supplied with the wall shelf in about 1990.

We then tried the SRM acrylic baseboard and support platform. That was fractionally better than no baseboard. With the SRM bits, the sound appeared no better or worse from being on MDF or tempered glass (which is I think the sort found on a Fraim).

We did another round of A/ B listening when the Stiletto/ Skorpion arrived. Tempered glass was still not obviously worse than the MDF, but it wasn’t better either. All other variants seems worse, and the heavier ones worried me that they and the Stiletto would rip the big bolts of the wall in a very expensive way.

YMMV, but to my ears, keeping it simple still sounds right. At a push, I might repaint the MDF board…

Mate that’s so useful, thanks for taking the time.

Over the last few days i have changed some things around, I have one empty fraim lite shelf that holds my Lejonkleu entity and lingo 4, my new lp12 psu arrives on the 29th so I needed a space for the phono stage because the new akurate psu is bigger than I thought.

I found a wall mount that fits it perfectly so this now sits on the wall behind my fraim freeing up the shelf, also sounds better not being sandwiched between all my Naim gear.

While I was at it I put the fraim lite shelf on the top for my lp12.

Last week I bought a heavy coffee table which in my room managed to get rid of all the bottom end but having the turntable on fraim lite brought this back, this will be because I have a suspended floor I’m guessing

Probably a lucky chain of events :joy:

Rega P3 back in situ creating space in the Naim system for another incoming Technics.

Rega into the Musical Fidelity/ Kefs, sounding very good.

I’m really pleased with this setup, sounds incredible, probably the best I’ve owned in 30 plus years.
Two things stand out, the SBLs are fitted with Sean Jacobs PXO and the Innous Pulse streamer.

Daytime pictures

Hopefully this is me done for a while but with one exception, I will be organising a home audition of the new Chord Quartet when released.

A picture of my very much loved and hard earned NDX2/555DR/252/300DR before I reduce the box count by moving to a Linn Selekt with my 300DR.

Having sat here listening to it at 10pm for the last few hours, I’m now questioning what I’ve done… But it’s the right thing to do for me and my wife :+1:

I turned the 505s in slightly this morning and it works a lot better for me. I know many have no toe in at all.

just a thought if you’re reducing boxes you might want to consider a lower rack level. for me it made a discernable difference improving the imaging.

You will find that you’ve made a good choice, plus the SO is a smart piece of software.

Technics SL1210GR2 no.2 now in Naim system in place of Rega RP6, but as I have a couple of headshells turning up tomorrow I will keep the new Ortofon 2M Black back and instead have transferred Ania from Rega.

Sounding gorgeous together, body and depth with liquid vocals.

Will sort out something more permanent for under turntable as making use of the Rega wall mount and four feet into three cups doesn’t go.

what would you like to know and i’ll see if i can help?

I think I’ve asked this maybe. But again if so. Which Naim system did you have prior to Aavik and what are the main differences in performance/sound signature?

You’ve done what? Why? :joy::joy:

Your my hero too, probs Dan and a few others!
