System Pics 2025

Sorry to hear about your GH’s. As you state they are exceptional speakers, IMO the finest stand mounts one can buy.
I think that SF did slightly change the speaker as time went by, I know they reduced the number of staves in the cabinet and perhaps they did change the lacquer that they were utilizing, although i have not heard this for sure.
My pair are some of the last that were produced, and I have babied them in a room that is climate controlled and where they get little access to direct sunlight. As you note, they still appear as new, except for the dreaded silk string sag on the speaker grilles. The SF silk string idea, looks great, but it really is not a good long term solution IME.
I have replacement strings, but am putting off replacement as they are a pain to re-string.

Yes Richard - it’s an oldie but goodie. I updated its firmware last week for the new Naim iRadio service. Thank you for posting the instructions. I followed them to the letter and it completed faultlessly.:+1:

By the way, the Franco Serblin Accordo sounds amazingly similar, but is even more sensitive in terms of source, amplifier and cables.

That’s what I thought immediately - did not expect you being the first to comment

Hi Chris, with a system like that did you build up to it or start off with quite a high investment? I’m intrigued to know what your early days in HiFi were about, sounds and kit wise. Thats a beautiful system you now have, glad you are enjoying it. Also a lovely ambience in the room.

This hi-fi system is the result of a long journey. My interest in hi-fi began in my early years in the 80s with a Yamaha receiver, tape deck and record player and Onkyo speakers. Perhaps not hi-fi from today’s perspective, but I liked it. At some point, a Sony CD player was added, the tape deck was replaced by a larger Onkyo model and then again by Yamaha. The receiver was replaced by an integrated amplifier and a tuner from Denon. Not forgetting the loudspeakers, of course. I used the Point 1e from Energy for quite a while. Small, playful speakers that still serve me well in my office today. The first Naim component only came into my hi-fi life in 2006. It was the NAIT 5i. I was now infected with the Naim virus and the journey continued via the SuperUniti, NAC 272/XPS with NAP 250 and then NAP 300 to the current 500 system. I’m sure I’ve left out one or two components, but I’m actually very happy with the current system, it’s fun to listen to music and watch films - yes, in stereo and not surround - and I currently invest more in music than in technology.

The Serblin’s you reference are also very good speakers. Perhaps a tad less resolving than the GH’s, but also a speaker that one can live long term with.
Friend owns a new pair, and runs them with all BAT gear. Sounds nice.

It’s very nice of you to mention the Franco Serblin Accordo. They are not so common here in the forum. I’ve heard them twice at dealers. They are impressive. If you’re interested, (Click here)and (Click here).

Be aware they are very dependent on positioning and rooms size and shape

After falling in love with their sound and looks at my dealer when I was auditioning new speakers in his demo room, he brought them round for me to hear at home…

They simply did not work in the space I had available, sounding thin and un-involving…

OK, I accept the space I have is limited but was fine for my existing Wilson Benesch Arcs and now for a pair of YG Cairns

So not a speaker to buy without a home trial

They were on my shortlist a year ago, in combination with a larger Sugden amplifier.

But then it became something different, because I did not want to do without the comfort of a control via app.

For what it offers, the Accordo is not expensive or at least it is more than reasonably priced.

With cats in the house possibly not the first choice, if I think of the cords of the cover.

great journey Chris, I too had Denon tuner, the famed TU260L which in its time won lots of awards but, blast, then came DAB. Nice story and an angle which I enjoy and should be on here a little more, it’s nice to hear peoples stories of old.

Interaction with the room is essential for every loudspeaker, as is the choice of electronics, especially the matching amplifier. This applies not only to the Franco Serblin Accordos. So I agree with you completely. There is no such thing as a ‘best by for everyone’. And in the end, home demo is essential for choosing the right loudspeaker. I’m happy that they found a perfect solution with Wilson Benesch Arcs and YG Cairns.

Thanks for your words of support

The purchase of the Cairns (which I brought forward after the threat of tariffs by “you know who”) mark what I think is the end point of my upgrade journey…

It took a lot of listening to amps and speakers, as well as the patience and help of Paul at HifiLounge to figure out what was right for me.

I still find it amazing how the sound signature of amplifiers are so noticeably different - no such thing as a piece of wire with gain methinks.

…and on that point dont get me started on cables and interconnects…

The Statement set really does look impressive when it is together as three units. However, what I like most about the picture is how the illuminated Statement ‘belt line’ is such a great visual match with the bright ‘belt line’ in the Titans - almost like they were made to match each other.

Not quite a system pic as such but a corner of my partner’s kitchen featuring my Dad’s old Rega Planar 2. It has been checked out today at a local dealer and sounded great.

Edit: And this is where I put it down when I came in from the hi-fi shop.
