The light polution from that place is “ impressive”. My mate lives in SE Den Haag and when I stayed with him last year the sky was orange all night long. Similar in Iceland.
I should perhaps try that.
Assuming you don’t use 4L in one go, how do you keep an opened can from going off? Layer of oil?
4 kids and other people around. I typically prepare 8 litres of soup (one large pan), pasta sauce, pizza toppings in such a week. I’ll do that once or twice per year. The kids love tomato soup and all of them know how to prepare it.
The problem with Dutch tomatoes is their lack of taste and we avoid them, I’d rather go without. We buy Isle of Wight tomatoes, which taste great, even in the winter, and they are grown only a few miles away.
According the net the source is “Mediterranean Tomatoes” but we like that one also

i can see this thread being renamed “tomato wars” in short order ![]()
Hopefully that’s actually true - a number of Italian tinned tomato brands were recently outed for using cheap imported tomatoes.
It may surprise you but I agree.
My current lunch:
I’ve prepared this on Monday and it has a perfectly balanced taste currently.
Marmalade on roast bone marrow - interesting combo
We’re lucky enough to live 20 minutes from the factory, so stock up there periodically. Their website looks like it has a good mail order setup, which you could try.
I was disappointed they changed their hexagonal glass jars for pasta sauce to a more conventional type some months ago - first world issues!
Are the Isle of Wight ones only sold reasonably locally?
Woof.
From memory I think I’ve seen them further afield. We get ours from the Southern Coop. I’ve also seen them in Waitrose from time to time. We have a farmers market in the square once a month, and sometimes the Isle of Wight people have a stand, selling their strange heritage varieties, which invariably taste delicious.
I think M&S have them from time to time.
