I’m very familiar with the Moon/Qutest having lived with it for a long time and I know from long term previous experience what a Naim CD player brings to the party - which is why I wanted one again. So not an assumption but rather based on experience. It’s just my own opinion and it’s quite possible that another listener might reach a different conclusion. Not any concern to me though.
But the whole point is that you haven’t heard the Moon/Q through your current system, and, unless I have missed something, not compared with the CD5 in any system, so all is assumption. It is what you want, which is what’s important, but your claim that the CD5 is more engaging to you is unfounded - and possibly wrong! But as I said, I wouldn’t recommend comparing now - you are happy with what you have (happy…ish!)
One proceeds according to one’s own experience and beliefs and reaches conclusions about how things sound according to one’s own preferences. I’m completely satisfied with my choice and I believe my conclusions are absolutely correct. You would perhaps have proceeded differently. If you believe that my conclusions are unfounded and possibly wrong then I like that. It’s quite fascinating to me. It illustrates very well our different approaches. Based on our previous discussions I would expect nothing less of you! It’s all good and I do appreciate hearing your views which are never anything less than very interesting.
Is there any value in such a personal and rather vitriolic response? How does it move our understanding forward. Would you use those words if face to face, I somehow doubt it
Pete has been really open about his choices and the reasoning behind them.
Here here.
Absolutely ridiculous responses imo. It’s as if he is responding to a child. Unbelievable

Yes I would. Pete and i have been having discussions here for years ( including under his previous forum names. I think we are at s level where we can be frank with each other quite openly, also this was in the context of the thread where mucb more was discussed.
(@70sPete if I have misjudged and crossed a line please do say.)
No more ridiculous than than the power cable replies![]()

Not all, it’s assumptions and beliefs. You make a good point by noting this, so it doesn’t get confused with real advice. Replacing the entire system at once means you can’t assess how each individual component actually performs. But it is perfectly fine for fun and amusement .
Not at all. I enjoy our exchanges very much. I think we both ‘tell it like it is’, or at least how we each see it. As I’ve said before, I do find views and thinking which challenge my own to be exciting to read. Having my thoughts and reasoning questioned makes me think more clearly and helps to crystallise my views and aims. If it did upset me then I would have to question why that was. People can get upset when their thinking is challenged if in fact there is something that they know is questionable there and they don’t like to acknowledge it!
Anyway I know 100% that I’m never wrong about anything. As sure as I’m sailing this ship! ![]()
That’s true and well said, but it does depend on circumstances. If one is already familiar with all the components involved and their performances then it really isn’t necessary to be able to make that assessment. If one was introducing unfamiliar components of unknown performance though then replacing the whole system in one go is far more risky. In fact this was the only time that I’ve ever replaced everything in one go but it really was low or no risk as the Naim amp and CD player I just knew I would love from my long experience of Naim. I hadn’t heard the JBL speakers before, but I knew I wanted horns (having experienced them with my previous speakers) and everything I read about them, including several reviews and anecdotes, led me to believe that they would be the speakers for me. So a bit of a risk perhaps, but not much really. After a certain amount of experience one gets a ‘feel’ for what will be right for oneself. Anyway it worked out and I absolutely love what my JBL’s do. Besides anything else I’ve always just wanted a pair of JBL’s!
