Just a heads up that The Cure have recorded two shows for the BBC, a 6 Music session and a Radio 2 In Concert and both shows are up now on the iPlayer. I’ve only watched the 6 Music so far and it was very good indeed. The Radio 2 show looks much more pop oriented with plenty of hit singles.
There is of course the new album out tomorrow and a livestream of their show at the Troxy in London tomorrow night so all in all a good couple of days for fans of The Cure
If you want to watch the Radio 2 In Concert show you’ll need to be quick as it expires at 10.15pm tomorrow night i.e. 2nd November. The 6 Music session is available until the end of the month.
Thanks for that heads up – I was actually going to leave those two shows until after I watch the Troxy show tonight (well, early morning my time!), but guess I better get onto the Radio2 show soon…(if I download it for offline viewing, does it last longer or still the same…?)
Currently got End Song playing WAV 24/96, think I’m gonna blow my system up at this volume…! Certainly not doing my Tinnitus any good…but f*#k it…!!

I have never bought a Cure record, and beyond ‘Friday I’m In Love’ (and the excellent Yo La Tengo cover version’) was not really interested but I have streamed the new album this am via Tidal out of curiosity. It is quite something. Not sure it is a keeper but has totally surprised me with its intensity and atmosphere. I will give it more plays.
I use Tidal to dip into new releases most weeks, then choose what to buy and download. Great that it can be used like the old-fashioned booth in a record shop to try things you might not normally hear. We forget how lucky we are these days to have access to so much music

For the first time in goodness knows how long I’m actually in the office on a Friday which is ridiculously bad timing!
As for downloading for offline viewing I suspect it may have the same restrictions.
You need to give Disintegration a stream in that case, a superb album
Has it been stated anywhere if the Troxy gig is going to be available on YouTube post gig or is it live stream only…? Can’t seem to find any info anywhere….
Plan to watch live (well, I planned to be there but that’s another story!), but it’s going to be a 4am wake up….unless I just power through playing SOLW all night…!

I tried to get tickets for the Troxy show, I even got the option to say 2 tickets please but by the time I clicked on checkout they were all gone in less than 4 seconds
Exactly the same, literally about 4-5 secs…I hit the button exactly on the hour, spun for couple secs then said ‘sorry, sold out’……how can 3000 people purchase and checkout in 4 secs…!? Something not right….
The “curepedia” book has dropped to £16 and pence on Amazon uk.
According to bbc page here The Cure to perform for Radio 2 and 6 Music
“ The Cure’s Radio 2 In Concert and 6 Music performances will also be available in vision on BBC iPlayer on the evening of Thursday 31 October and on demand for 30 days.”
Unless of course that’s changed. On iplayer the r2 show doesn’t mention an expiry date.
New album sounds like classic Cure to me …. Makes up for wild mood swings/bloodflowers/self titled/413 dream.
Ok fair enough , doesn’t mention anything in the iplayer app.
Only listening on a qb while working but sounds very dynamic recording.
Maybe the web page is wrong, who knows, but anybody keen to watch it should do so soon just in case it is gone tomorrow. The web page for the 6 Music session is saying still available until the end of the month
Listened to the R2 live stream last night and thought content wise it was very good, but I was so disappointed with the sound quality.
I listened through my Node N130 and have to say it’s the first time I’ve really missed my NAT05.
The R2 “In Concert” broadcasts used to sound stunning through the NAT05, coming very close on occasion to my vinyl front end.
After a storm destroyed my Galaxie 23 aerial I couldn’t find a comparable replacement so opted to remove the NAT05 and replace it with SCDR for my Superline.
I’m now wonering if I should try to source a new aerial and another level of Hutter.
Yes, they were so disappointing. They made me fall out of love with The Cure actually. Then a couple of weeks back I played Faith and was blown away all over again. Hoping the postie is dropping off the new LP today. I’ve had an email advising its despatch so fingers crossed …
The problem is that on iPlayer the audio is 128kbps and that’s never going to sound great on a good hifi system. A good FM tuner would probably beat it for SQ easily, depending on the quality of the source of course.
The R2 stream was 339kbps so way below the R2 FM I was used to with the NAT05.
Don’t know much about streaming but don’t understand why the BBC can’t stream in at least CD quality like Radio Paradise.
Was that listening to it on DAB? On the BBC Sounds app the download is about 60MB which screams 128kbps. Why don’t they stream in CD quality? I suspect cost and also that for what most people listen or watch on 128kbps is probably good enough. In my case it sounds quite decent on a Bose soundbar but not great with ND5 XS2 and SN3
Faith is such a fine album and in my opinion their best. That and the Carnage Visors track that accompanied the animated film.
