The end of the Naim Mu-so?

Hi everyone

I need to replace my 1st gen Mu-so. It had issues from the beginning, but I thought they’d come from my network setup. When I figured out that this isn’t the case, it was already too late to repair it, as no spare parts were available anymore.

The 2nd gen Mu-so was introduced over 7 years ago, so I expect spare parts to run out there soon as well.

Now the Focal/Naim Mu-so Hekla is out, which is too big a beast for my kitchen area.

Do you expect the “regular“ Mu-so to fade out or to get a successor at any given time?

I believe that the Muso and QB are no more.

As Focal now have the speaker named Hekla if any more are coming, it seems logical they’d be branded Focal.

I’m not aware of the mu-so being discontinued. The Qb has gone unfortunately, but only because the factory that made it for Naim increased the minimum order quantity to a level that was financially unsustainable. It was a good seller before that happened.

Stereonet seems to think there’s a Naim Mu-so Utopia :man_shrugging:

Utopia. What a price?!? £4,500 !!

And What Hi*Fi has a review published just hours ago. The Stereonet review has a publication date for tomorrow. Like the Hekla I see no mention of support for a Roon endpoint.

Maybe they all jumped the gun and Naim is announcing tomorrow?

AV Forums have a review of a new Naim Muso Utopia that says it’s a new product in addition to the recently released Focal Hekla. I expect we will get the marketing spin email tomorrow….

The Naim Audio Mu-so Utopia is now available with a launch MSRP of £4,499 (€5,000 / $5,500)….

That price does mark a continued rise for the Mu-so line-up, with the 2nd Generation launching at £1,299 and the Hekla at £3,000, so does the Utopia sound like it will offer enough of an upgrade to live up to its name?

I don’t really have a use case for this. I use my Mu-so2 for the bedroom TV. I use my Qb2 for the deck outdoors, and to take on road trips when staying in a VRBO.

you lug the qb around ?

Yeah, why not? It’s the perfect road trip music system. I pack a lot of stuff for our road trips, including two bicycles (plus tools and spares). The Qb2 doesn’t take up that much space in relation to all that we take.

We go on the road with a Hyundai Palisade and a large Thule rooftop cargo carrier. We can haul a lot of gear. And next time we plan to take along our 85 lbs. Rottweiler too.

There are quite a few reviews of this new Naim Muso Utopia on-line, it looks like Naim are a bit behind in announcing it….

It seems I’m well out of touch!

Wasn’t expecting a new Naim product. I don’t recall seeing any communications so a bit of a surprise.

Be interesting to hear it and very curious to see how it performs verses muso 2 and hekla.

I think I read it’s c£5k so far from cheap but we’ll have to see how it sounds

Pricing and availability

The Mu-so Utopia will be available exclusively through the Focal Powered by Naim network of authorized retailers for $6,500 USD and $8,500 CAD starting January 2027.

Be very disappointed if this statement is accurate and I can’t buy one via my local dealer…..

Looks much larger than my muso2, too large for my sun room use. I’d be more inclined to move my Nait 50 into the space, but downside would be housing speakers.

I can house a hekla / utopia where as speakers cause a challenge with the way my room is so I was interested in this as an upgrade to the muso - sadly not being able to buy through my dealer (if that is the case) is pretty close to a deal breaker….

What is the size? The WHF review says the length as 40cm, but it looks much bigger in the picture. I wonder if they meant 40in. Given its shape and size and the demos reported on in various reviews particularly praising its ability with soundtracks I reckon it’s fundamentally an upmarket Hekla. For pure music listening it would be interesting to compare it with, for example, a Star Lite plus a good pair of £2k speakers at around the same total price.

looking at naim website the muso 2 has a banner at the bottom of the page “discontinued products” so it looks like it has gone - RIP muso2?

I have just received an email from Focal about the Muso Utopia.

Now that’s a funny coincidence, I definitely didn’t expect this! However, the Mu-so Utopia has the same dimensions as the Mu-so Hekla and thus doesn’t fit as replacement for my old 1st gen Mu-so in the kitchen… but it would also be a bit of an overkill with that price tag:sweat_smile:

If you touch the banner it takes you to the discontinued Qb2. There is nothing to say that the mu-so is gone. The new one is an entirely different product, costing five times the price of the mu-so. Stopping the mu-so without a replacement would be potty.
