The Grand Cafe

Mines hidden away - I’ve never had issue with ripping apart with a remastered CD Neil Young “After the Goldrush” CD , just would not accept it . A 40th anniversary remaster just came out and ripped in one go

Sound is just as good as CD, in fact sometimes better !!! I use mine with a DAC and CB Nait 2 and nSAT speakers - great little system

What dac are you using?

Well I was going to use the nDAC but decided to keep that on the CD5XS and feeding into XPS

So just acquired a Gieseler Audio Kompakt from QLD - mate of mine has one and it’s fantastic - small but beautifully built to a very high standard - Clayton Gieseler is a real enthusiast and has been making DAC’s for quite some time, they get rave reviews - I guess one would call it cottage industry - kompakt great value at $1,200 including registered post for delivery. Beautifully packaged up for delivery - have a look on website - he’s a great guy to chat to

That is streaming for you! In time you can rip all your CDs then sell the CDP and nDAC…

Nah not yet mate - nothing like the physical connection to Vinyl or CD’s

One day but not yet

Might add I have ripped all my CDs into the core - but the core/dac/nait2/nSats are in my second home out of Sydney

It’s a secondary system for convenience but cannot beat vinyl on the main system - and wouldn’t expect it to

Me too. It’s a bit of a mystery why it’s not often favoured amongst the forum folk.

And that might well allude to where Naim are heading…

Maybe it there’s a lot of misinformation about it’s capabilities. Also the concerns about how Naim tag WAV files seem to bother a few.

True, but it’s not going to sit well with the hardcore separatist

Change is coming. You heard it first here :flushed:

No there’s lots of experts here I’m sure they’ll know before us.

Imagine all those with 552s if Naim updated the pre amps with the Uniti styling. I definitely want to be around for that.:rofl:

Well you know the forum folk Mike - set in their ways ha ha

It will be the new “272” that will set the cats amongst the pigeon with the size and styling of a Nova with no upgrade path for additional power supplies. I’ve said it before, but the fact the 272 was discontinued was a clear signal of going down a more simplified hi-end lifestyle product. Probably matched with a Focal active speaker.

Ha ha a revolution as never seen before :joy:

I’m not so sure, if they turned the 272 into a uniti type product there wouldn’t be a matching power amp. I wouldn’t upgrade if they did that, I spent a fortune moving from the odd boxes (CB/Olive/current) I had all 3 in my system a few years ago. I think they’ll keep the lifestyle stuff as it is. I’d say there’s a greater chance it won’t be replaced.

Do think they could let us know if it’s being replaced (regardless of style) or not.

I agree Pete - I know it’s not the Naim way to advice in advance but maybe it’s timefor the management to have a rethink

Otherwise customers may say well stuff it I’ll go elsewhere

It’s not too much to ask

Did you sell your 500 setup?

Pre amp and amp gone - cd555 tougher but seems to be a bit of current interest

Harry is the man - he knows he gets it back in other equipment ha

He spent 3 hours here yesterday he is the best Naim dealer world wide I reckon

Having looked at the changes in distribution and dealers in NZ, it’s looking very much like a case of: if you want classic range stuff new, get it within the next few months, otherwise second hand is going to be the only good option going forward with Naim.
