The Naim New Classic range - Part 1

I think that’s the separate volume control upgrade for Statement, is it not?

You could also use a Nova or Star in a similar manner, but maybe they were not released when you got your Atom.

I got an Atom soon after release and it was fantastic value for money - Nova/Star not then available.

My Atom had an issue with the display and I had the option of a new one or offsetting against the newly arrived Nova which I’ve used ever since as a ‘source’ into an older Naim active system (give or take a few months while I got my olive gear out of storage) and I suspect like you I ponder over replacing Nova withh something else as I don’t use the power out currently. The Atom /Nova purchases were intended to be temporary until I resurrected the ‘full system’ and got a standalone streamer for that but the Nova does a very good job these days compared to the NDX 2 which would have been the obvious choice had it been available at the time.

Interesting times ahead!

With regards to WAF, amazing to think that Naim not only attracted you to their products but were then able to offer improved marital/domestic harmony

If you were to use an external headphone amp so having two volume controls, would you advise turning the nsc222 volume fully open and setting volume via the headphone amp or using a mixture of the two controls.

Ah, I hadn’t seen one before :eyes:

Some hints here, there are older explanatory threads.

Still waiting for NCC 1701 but suspect that will be way beyond my pay grade.

A dealer once told me the X in XPS was simply because the XPS could power many things, such as DAC, CD, NDX etc.

So X for “cross product range”. Could be complete bunkum

This works for the NPX300 which is clearly going to be the single multi purpose PSU going forward, with specialised applications such as NPX-TT available to power Solstice and maybe all future NVC phono stages? (but as already discussed here this can also be done from 222 now).

It’s in Salisbury disguised as a factory

Harbouring a whale no doubt!

Maybe we’re not that far off!

Thanks for the reply… how significant is the power supply upgrade to the turntable?

@110dB
Thanks for that reply

Just wondering about NVC-TT, which looks to integrate with NSC222, as an external phono stage, etc
But, can the NXT 300 be added to NVC-TT as “PSU upgrade” too.

Or maybe is there another PSU that is better suited coming along soon?

Most assuredly not, since it’s the same platform like in the 2nd gen Unitis and the 2nd gen streamers - they all share, that the USB ports are for “storage” only, i.e. USB sticks, disks, and SSDs.

A lot off topic, but:
Naim is in 3 parts; r&d, the people making the kit, and everyone else (sales, finance, support, supply chain, qa …). We were even split that way for breaks. All the “fun” goes on in r&d. Unless you make the right friends, you have no idea what’s going on in r&d. For some, Naim is just another employer in the Salisbury area. I have head and heart feelings about having worked there. Heart loved it, but I missed all the r&d stuff. Head says I’m happier where I am now. If I could wind back the clock I would have pursued engineering and would have loved to do r&d. But I was looking after the erp system and enjoyed occasional visits to the dem room. I wouldn’t go back.

I don’t care how it looks & I would only care how it sounds.

If this is just a face lift, meh, but if this is a big step up in sound quality, great for Naim and customers. Note: At that price point, it should only be made in England.

If they have gone to all the trouble of allowing the displays to have white or green, then the facia LEDs should be able to do the same - heritage vs modern. Caters for everyone then.

Anything that isn’t USB-C is of no interest to me (standardisation is definitively welcome and super a reliable connector/interface).

The NAP 250 would be fine with 1 meter. Some folk like the sound of longer cable though.

Classic split in many (most?) companies. Unfortunately. If they could merge and understand each other then better products would be made. Challenge is conflict of interest where those camps often don’t talk same language.

Understood- i like my ndx2 sn3 combo. Id have gone for this alternative 2 box solution i bet as i liked the 272 but wanted updated endgame streaming.

Good point - in fact I had acquired a Prima Luna amp at that time so was only in need of a pre/streamer so Atom was all I needed.

I do think the 222 is a smart move for many potential buyers looking for a more ‘efficient’ step up from the Atom/Nova/Muso entry points. Excited to see what the full combo sounds like.

Quite a significant one, with openness and texture.
Nice easy demo, ask your dealer to set up.
