The Naim New Classic Range - Part 2

Indrawn breath of disbelief and horror

Qualio Audio has a Munich 2023 video on youtube (Virtual Trip part 1 Atrium). Make sure to set HD on YT settings as it is a hires recording.
Naim/Focal room- enters around 2:07:50 (Nova?) and 2:09:10 (New Classis Series).
Is that the clarity of the NCS sound?

Thanks @Devraj the iBLs are sounding better than ever with the recent addition of new tweeters.

Your own system(s) seem to cover a wide range of naim gear, you may have more units than Richard!

I’m not seeing that at all.

What has been confirmed is, a 332 without external power supply relies on non DR regulators. So it’s safe to say the equivalent old style pre with DR PSU will outperform it.

However, the 332 with external PSU will have onboard regulation, plus external DR pre regulation, which is going to sound a lot better than an old style pre which doesn’t have pre regulation.

Pre regulation is not new. The CDS players and the NdaC have pre regulation when powered from external PSU.

I think Steve covered that well with the first two design objectives:

A. Some users want to reduce box count in their system.
B. They want an upgrade route to push their investment to the next level.

This just reflects the commercial reality moving forward. A much simplified range, with a clear upgrade path with a power supply that works across the range of streamer/pre, streamer and pre-amp. That’s a massive improvement over the previous vortex of different power supplies.

The key will be how the 332 and 333 perform with separate NPX300’s against the existing 282 and 252 options. Being new products, one would expect them to be better, though of course, presentation styles and personal preferences may vary a bit.

But has he suggested fewer boxes and better sound quality.

My post was a reply to the suggestion that he did.

soon I will do exact this
the NAIT50 with my Cornwall IV
later I will move it to the living room to pair it with my bc 1`s

It’s been explained at length now. And given the NC are a new standard there is no equivalent comparison in my view. Fact is I can buy a three box separates system at a SQ I wasn’t able to previously which is a great move by Naim and one I wasn’t expecting.

So how can you say the sound quality is better if there is nothing to compare.

Yes, I guess the test will be the 252/SC versus the 332/300. Certainly the SC DR seems more grunty than the NPX300.

You got it in one Mike :+1::+1:

Also the fact he has never heard it either

Yes, that kit is likely to be there on dealers’ stands.

See you there on the Saturday, I hope.

(I think we met briefly at the Acoustica show last year.)

Why not?

Back on the NC250 I believe it doesn’t fit on Fraim with SuperLumina speaker cable. Does it fit on Fraim with NACA5 ? Thanks.

Ok so my 222/300/250/P10 is sounding just great and perfectly balanced for streaming and vinyl. So if considering upgrading to a 332/333 in place of the 222 (currently with 300 power supply) where would the 333 (no 300 power supply) sit in terms of hierarchy vs. the 222 with 300 power supply given that the existing 300 power supply would surely need to partner the 332 to benefit the P10, or would one realistically be looking at an additional 300 power supply to partner the 333 in order to achieve a balanced upgrade and worthwhile step up in SQ for streaming thus adding an additional ÂŁ5,700 to the upgrade journey?

That’s not what I said. That’s what you said. You’re the one who is claiming an equivalence.

I can see Naim offering SL cables with a 90 degree air plug or, possibly simpler solution, a Fraim rear upright with a hole in it.

I expect we will debating that option for years…
