The Naim New Classic Range - Part 2

You really need to stop stating this as a fact. You are starting to sound like some of the more despised dealers who participate in other hi if forums who pollute every thread with their “my product blows it out of the water” comments.

Here is a fact for you. To my ears in my room both the 282 hicap and 252 supercap are clearly superior to 222 300

Certainly not a fact based on my surveys of other dealer opinions.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the tone of the posts is tiresome.

To be fair here, this dealer is expressing their own opinion, and nothing more. That’s fine.

All here is just personal opinion, and while there are some who might also agree, I’m sure there are plenty of others who would beg to differ. It’s up to others to listen and make up their own minds for themselves.

@Ryder35 - I am in agreement. Dealers should post with care, when offering their opinions - because that is all they are. Opinions. Not Facts.

I think the dealer has to follow a difficult line. A strongly held view is one thing, but constant repetition starts to sound like advertising. We lesser mortals who repeat our strong opinions just look fanatical.

Well Naim are hardly going to object to a dealer constantly talking up its products even if it’s tiresome for the rest of us. Now if it was a non naim product I suspect it would have been deemed blatant marketing long ago.

I’m afraid I have to disagree Richard. This dealers constant spammy posts are pushy and repetitive. It’s a tiresome opinion that is pushed by a trade member and dealer. Unsurprisingly tolerated by Naim in support of their products, but such blatant commercial marketing it’s utterly out of place on this forum.

I have absolutely no problem with anyone, including a dealer, posting their opinions. I don’t even care if it is said in such a way that it sounds like fact because we all know (or should) that how Hi-Fi equipment sounds is only ever an opinion, since we all have different preferences etc.
What does annoy me is the constant repetition. The dealer in question has said their piece, we heard it loud and clear, they’re actually now doing themselves more damage than good by going on about it.

It’s definitely spoiling the fun in this thread me reading / anticipating tidbits about the new gear from various people. It’s repetitive, non-informative and at times insulting (I know what you don’t know and won’t tell you unless you come in to my little shop)

But to each their own of course

Sorry Richard! I generally ignore it but it is getting a bit excessive.

I like @Musicraft postings

Dealers are fine to discuss Naim kit here. However, they are not allowed to actively solicit members or promote their business beyond general Naim discussion, or are they allowed to talk about other brands, except where incidental to their discussion of Naim kit. I do give a bit of leeway with dealer discussion of the Linn Sondek, as it has been an element of the Naim Armageddon package for so long.

Well, I’m sure it would be sensible to pay heed and consider members feelings here.

I like them too and it’s great to know that Naim has delivered some new kit that improved on the old one.

The fact that so many people have to remind the moderators here of how inappropriate this is, is frankly embarrassing. Pity for the good useful thread really and that you cannot see this.

People who have no option to demo, those with less experience with Naim do look up to trade members for useful information and we do not expect blatant shallow new launches promotions by them here, this could be very misleading and unfair to members and readers, especially given the costs involved. It could be, ironically, rather counterproductive too! But if this serves your objectives, you should be more transparent and honest here, to say the least.

I have no objective here except to be fair to all members, whether regular or trade. What Trade members are allowed to post is very strictly regulated (far more so than other members) and trust me when I tell you that this trade member in particular will be very aware of that…

I hear you Richard

I just wish the particular trade member in question would use the words “ in my opinion” rather than “it is”

That’s all

That applies to an awful lot of people on here. Posting opinion as fact is extremely common. I’m sure people are sensible enough to be able to distinguish between fact and opinion without it needing to be explicitly stated in every post.

When people are spending this much money they will listen and decide for themselves. Frankly anyone who buys at these sorts of prices based on someone else’s opinion, whoever they are, is a fool.

If dealer X thinks the latest Naim kit wipes the floor with anything else available at any price then so what? His opinion should mean as much to you as I expect yours does to him.

I do agree, though with a caveat. It’s not always possible for people to listen for themselves, especially in some parts of the world. Someone once posted on here that they’d bought their system based on my recommendation. Thankfully it worked out well for them. Obviously people need to judge whose opinions to put faith in, and perhaps a dealer can appear more trustworthy than a standard Forum member. This makes it really important that trade members post truthfully and objectively, acting in the interests of those who may be spending large sums. And of course, it’s not easy to know whom to trust.
