The Naim New Classic Range - Part 2

I suppose I gave up listening to what dealers say many years ago. IME most of them are highly opinionated and obvioiusly have a vested interest in selling you what they stock. Anyone who imagines they will get unbiased independant advice from any dealer is in cloud cuckoo land.

I wouldn’t trust any of them as far as I could throw them. Their sole interest is in making money. Not cynicism or bitterness, just keeping one’s eye’s fully open and facing up to reality.

I bought all my current set-up on-line on a like or return basis. Zero dealer input. I know the sort of performance that I’m after, and I generally know the sort of kit that is more likely to get me that. So I read around extensively, various reviews, opinions on forums etc. That allowed me to whittle it down to a likely short list. Final decision based on absolutely nothing but what I heard in my own room. Worked out for me.

I must admit I’ve always found it this very easy. I trust absolutely nobody other than my wife.

I guess this why I found it refreshing when the two dealers I spoke to recommended I should stay with my NAP 300 rather than moving to NC250

That’s a pretty dim and depressing view. Maybe you should develop a decent relationship with a good dealer.

I agree

I trust my dealer 100%

He’s stopped me spending even more money over the years :grinning:

Same here, you must have a good dealer.:rofl:

This is why I didn’t find it refreshing that dealers I spoke to didn’t recommend I should stay with expensive kit that I had.

I think it’s all rather funny now and a rather curious marketing strategy. If I were in the market for an LP12 I’d go and see Peter Swain, never met him, but he shares tips, advice etc. and has a solid reputation from what I can see. I can’t see myself travelling to a dealer who won’t share their secret sauce on here for fear of being copied or whatever - just doesn’t feel to me to be in keeping with the community spirit.

I’ve actually concluded that said dealer is just winding us all up and is having a chuckle to himself reading these comments following each post.

It doesn’t depress me. I can’t speak for anyone else.

Or maybe I shouldn’t.

Don’t let him wind you up Pete. He’s not into Naim anyway so he’s just messing around.

Cheers.

If I was “into Naim” then I wouldn’t be messing around? I am indeed “messing around” if you consider my refusal to be browbeaten into accepting someone else’s opinion as being more valid than my own experiences constitutes “messing around”.

Reputable dealers might express their own opinion on such a hifi forum but I guess e.g. along the lines that something is worth a listen, subtle and once or a couple times as part of a discussion they are involved in for a good (technical, availability or similar) reason. Such an unprofessional, trolling presence as here on this forum may be obvious to many or most but I suspect a few might be mislead (and just a few is too many and not the spirit here). People in this hobby tend to trust their dealers, and for a good reason, therefore such traders are really not doing anything good to their guild or to the enthusiasts.

And you would know that because of course you know me and my history very well don’t you?

I own three Powerlines and two Muso QB2’s. That’s over £3K worth of Naim kit. Out of curiosity, how much more would you say I needed to spend before I can be considered 'into Naim"?

… good start but only if you use the Powerlines for the QB2s!

SHUT OUT

It’s the new Naim battle part. End of holidays maybe ?

Not even your milkman? :astonished:

Why would I need to trust my milkman, if I had one?
