The new NAIT 50 Limited Edition

There is always a market for a quality product and dare I say it the kudos of owning a Naim badged product. If we look at the car world many Porsche buyers (other marques could be substituted) don’t buy the car because of its driving characteristics.

It absolutely has its place I agree here, and I’d love one as well, not only driven by nostalgia.
It will be interesting where it might open things up further in the future for more general purpose (call it 100 Series) products.

Well, if you buy it, you will have “only” paid 3.5k for the turntable as the phono pre and its power supply are worth 5.5. Probably not too bad a deal assuming it was priced somewhat competitively originally.

They haven’t all sold, ergo it wasn’t priced competitively.

I guess that’s a question of definition. There’s supply and demand (we can agree there was certainly little of the latter), and there’s priced compared to competitors offering a similar level of performance.

I haven’t read anything to suggest there was an issue with the price/performance. And that’s what I was referring to when mentioning the pricing.

And even if it was, you’re now paying a third of the original price.

I suppose what it boils down to is that this is a component you buy with your heart, not your head.

I bought Roger a drink when I was a student - it practically bankrupted me at the time! Would have been round about that time.

A Jack and Coke? I can’t remember offhand what his tipple was - by the end of an evening, none of us knew what our preferred drinks were either!

Hmmm…kids stuff. I got so wasted one night trying to keep up with him that I had to sleep in a doorway and was two hours late for the start of our holiday. I can’t tell you how impressed my wife was. Especially as she had to drive some 250 miles with me in the back seat asleep! Amazing the trouble hifi can get you in! I think I only went into the SO for some cartridge bolts and green paper!

Something like the Q Acoustics 3020 its quite a smooth little speaker and could just match the funky little Nait rather well…

I have a set of these (the 3020i) on one of my systems already (fed by a Planar 1 and Audiolab 6000a). They certainly are smooth speakers.

I remember hearing the Nait in about 1986…and it was good but it could get a bit excited - at high frequencies… I just thought the 3020 might just work well…

Yes but tell my wallet that!

I have seen some solstice here around 12 to 13 k euro.
I have not dived deep into this decision and think a used lp12 might also fit my olive system.
Not sure, if solstice is the right TT for me.

Lovely, a thing of beauty to own, but as to what purpose, I’m not so sure……?

For Naim aficionados, surely a must have, but if I were starting out and had decided on the Naim experience I’d probably be looking at the 5si pairing or an NDX2/SN3, subject to budgetary constraints.

And it is a golden opportunity to light up a vintage system whilst maintaining the ‘look’ to say nothing of the sound…… that would be very tempting.

Definitely depends on your personal view on aesthetics, budget and what you hear whilst auditioning your hearts desire.

But everyone’s different and as ever YGMMV.

I think it’s purpose is pretty clear - to celebrate 50 years of Naim. And what a way to do it!

It’ll be fine. The high speed, high current capabilities of the NAIT 50 should ensure that the NAIT 50 just as the NAIT 1 and NAIT 2 is gutsy. This in turn should help the NAIT 50 be a more energetic and engaging listening experience then some alternatives of for eg. with comparable specs and some with higher specs regardless of price.

No guts. No glory :muscle:

I’m planning to replace my Nait XS2 and Stageline with the Nait 50. My home system will be the Nait 50, NDX, CD5 and Rega P3 24. I have been considering downsizing for some time now and this is the nudge I needed / wanted.
