The new NAIT 50 Limited Edition

No puppies here, just a 10 year old moggy and a 2 year old street cat running wild

Glad to hear it. This little amplifier does things seemingly impossible but it is rated at the very low end of ML’s power recommendation for the ESL 20 - 400 watts.

After the initial ‘excitement’ I can see the usual coming once you get yours back; Does incredibly well but not a match for the … (252/300).

It would be a stretch to imagine it could.

Nice experiment though and hopefully you’ll keep it for a second or third system.

Never meant to replace 252/300 but act as a short term replacement whilst the big boys get repaired and serviced. Thereafter it will be the heart of a second system in my study area. I already have a spare Chord Qutest DAC and a pair of Dynaudio Contour S1.4 speakers (though I think I will use headphones mainly). Just need to find a front end that I can add the CD library to.

Found your problem:

Oops, there you go again:

j/k!

My N50 initially struck me as mildly bright. Warm-up, run-in and/or ear & brain adjustment sorted it.

@Tamarin

What a great description of your various rigs and what a great car.

The Nait 50 has been playing for over 6 hours now and with the REL subwoofers added. The initial brightness I heard has greatly reduced. I would describe the music now as fast, accurate, sharp with wonderful vocal and instrument detail.

The 252/300 by comparison sounds a bit richer, warmer and with more depth. The music seems to hang in the air for a split second longer.

I’m now wondering what the difference will be when the 252/300 comes back repaired and serviced.

However the Nait 50 is a stunner. A great addition with a huge thumbs up from Mrs B.

When I pulled out my 552/500 non dr and replaced with Nait50 it was an ear opening experience. Given the price difference and all boxes I was blown away with the performance on the little Nait50. It was meant as an interim solution but I’ve stayed with it and I’m smiling all day listening to music. Put best source you afford on it and it will shine! :sparkles:

It seems different things for different people for different reasons. What seems a consensus is that almost all, bar a few exceptions, regard it as exceptional.

I wonder how folks will look at it in another ten or twenty years? Icon or novelty?

I would perhaps suggest iconic and idIosyncratic.

The Nait50 has limited appeal in terms of looks, practicability and sonically. Not everyone appreciates its retro design in 2026, let alone in another 10 or 20 years time. Not everyone will want or need an integrated amp, let alone one with limited connect-ability or with limitations to partnering kit. Not everyone will be ok with it being suited to small to medium rooms or with it not being suited to playing loud in large spaces.

I think it’s a terrific integrated amp and like all hi-fi it comes with compromises, which in this case are greater than most. However, what it does within the scope of its abilities, it does incredibly well. I have owned mine for 9 months and have listened to much more music since connecting it to my LP12. It’s back-to-basics construction suggest it’s less likely to develop a fault in the future. (Anticipated) reliability, aesthetics, small size, iconic status, cool factor; these are all secondary to the way it makes listening to music more enjoyable. I love mine and am still smitten by it.

A highly desired icon I’d think. That’s when it’s limited run will be felt, good luck trying to get one in 10 years. Sure they’ll move around for a couple of years more as some people will sell them on for various reasons, as listed by the unimpressed here. Eventually though they’ll all find a home with those who hear the magic, as found by the majority here. Pre-owned availability will dry significantly up as time goes on.

How are you finding the K320’s? May I ask if you looked at PMC too?

My Hi Fi journey really began in 1983. Back from my first year of Uni I spent the Summer working in the local Hospital.

My wages were spent at Audio Projects in Leeds. A Rega 3 with RB 300 R100 cartridge. Creek 4040 amplifier. Mordant Short MS20 speakers. A real introduction into how good a system could sound.

As life moves on a Linn Classik with Linn Index 2 speakers on Sara stands followed. The Rega stayed.

Then a Naim Uniti 1. The Rega stayed.

I finally bought a late Nait 2 in 2014 using the Uniti 1(fully upgraded and serviced) as source. Loved the sound with Guru QM10.

Then 2023 I bought a Nait 50. It replaced the Nait 2 (now part of my pc sound system with epiphany DAC and Linn Komponent 104)

Loved that sound with the Nait 50. The Rega now fully upgraded 24v motor with Rega Elys 2. With this system Vinyl bettered CD which bettered Streaming.

Then I decided to look at a used NDX2. Just missed out on an ex demo only to be offered an NSS 333 at a price I could not ignore. So I didn’t. Ex demo but in pristine condition like new.

So that went into streaming input. Uniti 1 to aux for CD. System sits on Iso Blue shelving. I set it up carefully. Inputs to left. Power to Right. Dedicated block (Titan).

I am simply in music heaven. I cannot believe the difference. Well I can given 15 years streaming development.

It’s a sublime listen. Hearing the parts that make the whole. Soundstage. Naim signature PRAT in all its glory.

I thought I would bore you with the story as I think I have reached the end….for now. Plus the Naim Nait 50 is an amazing achievement which works so well with the NSS 333. Which it should given development timelines.

Finally thanks to all who post as it helps so much people like me to gain knowledge and insight.

Speaker advice. After my longwinded post onto a new topic. I really enjoy my QM10 however I have moved and the system is now in a smaller carpeted space. I would like a little more drive and bass as I am listening much more.

Due to size room set out I need near wall 4m apart either side system recommendations that work well with NN50. I am not budget limited but don’t go mad. I am tempted by Oephi Lounge 2
stand mount loudspeakers but open to suggestions.

Taste wide but enjoy rock.

I’ve been using Neat Petite classics for a short while and think they mate very well with the NN50, also relatively easy with placement.

I’ve got Guru here too, you could do worse than check out their new range, couple of us on here have the 8 and 12 respectively. Erik the owner upgraded my Qm10’s to latest spec and they are special.

I have in last 3 months bought neat petite classics to go with my Nait 50 and it’s sublime.

Guru’esq but have their own magic. I have the Guru 12’s in the cabin on another Nait 50 and it’s spectacular, they just need more space than the Qm10’s.

Erik has recently tied up with Project for the production of the speakers for Guru.

What version of Qm10 do you have out of interest?
