The new NAIT 50 Limited Edition

I did say probably :slightly_smiling_face: I will add the the New Classic NAP 250 though :+1:

But you must have some idea of the others. Come on, can’t make a statement like that without seeing it through! :joy:

Probably another eight NAIT 50’s :+1:

Hi Ian congrats to your new amp. You had a Nova before. How do you rate the Nait 50 compared to the Nova? Which streamer/dac do you use with the Nait 50? Would a Nait 50 with an ND5XS2 (or even NDX2) be the better choice over a Nova (apart from some convenience limitations like remote control)? It would be very exciting to hear more direct comparisons in this thread. I would be happy to hear your assessment.

FYI Rick is a Naim dealer and on this forum there are rules governing what he can/cannot say.

I did give ten :grinning: and the NAIT 50 got NINE out of ten :slightly_smiling_face: Almost perfect :+1:

I finally received the proper Naim 4Pin to XLR a few weeks ago. I may have to change my opinion of how the NC250 compares to the 300DR.

The Huei has an unbalanced RCA output as well as balanced XLR. You should use the RCA out, as it’s not generally a good idea to connect balanced to unbalanced.

Next time I go to uk from NZ I will look for a Nait 50. I just hope naim will produce it on an ongoing basis, and that on this forum we aren’t just in a little information bubble whilst the rest of the hifi world look on bemused indifference.

Did you enquire about getting one here through a local dealer @IDAK?

Neither hold a candle to a NAIT 50 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@Mike_S Yes. I contacted addicted to audio who said they have announced they no longer be the naim dealers. They do not have access to any new naim products and are not sure who will be the new dealers.

Oh, that’s not very good. Have you tried Paul Money, or do they just get stock through Addicted to Audio?

I suspect so.
I think in general that high quality, high margin expensive hifi gear probably has service and ongoing technical support incorporated in its pricing. I think that why naim in NZ has languished over the last few years. Why pay top dollar for an expensive box you can’t get serviced. It’s all about the total ownership experience at that level.

Nothing wrong with listing what he thinks are the ten most musical amps. Now if they were all from his current selling stock that wouldn’t be good, or believable would it :joy:
Anyway this has run its course so I’m shutting up.

I wish I could join in on the merits or otherwise of the 50. Still haven’t received mine however :slightly_frowning_face:

I assume you can purchase one from an overseas distributor such as Oz, but have to pay shipping and import duty on top?

Thank you Wilfried, the reason for the Nait 50 was a long standing desire to reduce box count and box size , I bought it unheard and yesterday my dealer heard one for the first time !

Sound wise , it is warm , structured and precise . Out the box , it is a better sound than my Nova - and the Nova is a very, very fine product indeed

My streaming is really limited to internet radio , so all the bang up to date features such as Tidal, AirPlay etc aren’t really needed.

We did a quick A/B comparison with my Nova and compared the Internet Radio stream coming from my
UQ2 to the same broadcast coming from my Nova.

Unsurprisingly the Nova was slightly better than the UQ2 , but not significantly

We then started taking the system apart , and the connection between the UQ2 and the amplifier which had been Chord Cobra was replaced with Chord Shawline X (out this week)

So it went signal from UQ2 to Nova via Chord Cobra to UQ2 via Chord Shawline X to Nait 50 and it was good, very good indeed

My CD player has a digital output only and it is possible that CD functionality will be dealt with via the UQ2 being moved out of the AV rack (where I use it as a DAC) to the audio rack and placed next to Nait 50 .

The DAC functions in the AV rack being dealt by something like an Audiolab DAC .

The other alternative is to "retire my CDX2 and replace it with a Cyrus/Exposure /Leema half width CD player *

Anyway from the system pics thread, here is my new set up.

Th important thing is that the Nait 50 hits far beyond it’s size

  • Edited to reveal that I have furloughed my CDx2 for the time being and bought a Naim CD5si , I’ve added a Chord Shawline Powerline and will use a Shawline DIN to DIN in due time
