The new NAIT 50 Limited Edition

Ian, you just need a 50th anniversary LP12 to get the full retro experience…

Have been following this thread with interest. I missed out on ever having a Nait (well had SN3 for a while) so there is no nostalgic pull to me at all.

I can certainly believe that it can be fun beyond its price point - when I was giving my UQ and mission 70 speakers to my nephew I wired it up to have a listen and wow it was lively and fun! I would expect the N50 to be a lot more fun than that.

No, I would just like to be fifty again (without the hassle of working for A***n and a dodgy bowel)

I did ask about the price for a Linn Majik

In bright yellow

I don’t think as other people do

Hi Rick
How does the sound presentation compare to a SN3 or XS3 ?

Me neither, I was told Naim had a parts shortage issue but new ones should be getting shipped late next week again :crossed_fingers:

I’m probably in the minority as the real wood brigade seem to dominate when it comes to LP12 plinth choice, but I do like the painted LP12, especially in the brightest colours possible like that yellow / orange. Don’t think I’d be brave enough to choose that option though, as the fluted afromosia or walnut are still my favs. Although, If I saw that orange colour, or even a ‘Naim yellow-green’ in person at the dealers I could be tempted!

That’s a radical change in tonearm design for Linn, looking more like the Syrinx of old (which was, apparently a pig to set up and keep in tune). I have never seen one like that from Linn before.

Where does it sit in Linn’s hierarchy?

And I think that you’d have to be a Norwich or a Wolves supporter to be able to love the yellow plinth!

With a Rega Exact fitted?

Are you thinking of swapping your Clearaudio?

It’s supplied with the Majik level deck and costs just over a grand and is made by Clearaudio for Linn with mods.
It’s now the base level arm.

Spot on, can’t wait to the reactions to a bright green or yellow LP12, or even bright pink

Funnily enough there is a ProJect that the Exact would be the ideal cartridge for .

My Clearaudio is a lovely bit of work , but the Nait 50 does have me wanting to go all retro

Hello Graham, it’s an arm bought in from Clearaudio , last year Jelco who (I think) supplied a lot of arms went into liquidation.

I’m not sure there are that many tonearm manufacturers out there these days

Nice!

Straight out of the Rega sales book, but why not as it was a great idea.

As good as the NAIT 50 however it isn’t a miracle worker. New Classic NAP 250 can show the NAIT 50 and the NAP 300 DR a thing or two.

I truly appreciate you asking however I am sorry to inform you that I made a decision a while ago that I wasn’t going to comment on the sonic presentations of the NAIT 50 in relation to the NAIT 5si, NAIT XS 3 and the SuperNait 3. Best to have a listen and decide on how the integrated amplifiers fair against each other.

Had a NAIT 50 delivered yesterday and another one today.

Fair enough.

Good for you

Hi Ian, thanks for the detailed answer. It is very helpful. It shows that the Nait50 with a suitable streamer can be an alternative to the Nova that is worth trying. Your situation and usage is different from mine (I listen to 90% Qobuz/Webradio, 10% CD from Audiolab 6000CDT and I have no vinyl). I currently use the Uniti Atom, but plan to upgrade. At my dealer I heard Atom, Nova and the new 200 series (full set) compared. The Nova was better than the Atom, but not in a drastic way. The difference between the Nova and the NSC222/Nap250-3/NSC300, on the other hand, I experienced as huge (night and day) (Click here). At the moment I am setting up a personal listening room (Click here). Once the room acoustics are optimised, I will try different combinations there. A 200 full set would be a dream, but a big investment financially. Nait 50 with ND5XS2 or NDX2 (second hand) would probably be an alternative. Here in Switzerland, however, not many dealers offer the Nait50 so far for testing.
