Sadly no photos, but I had a Hawk T.2 on a low flight buzz past me a few weeks ago whilst fishing in Hereford.

The following day it came straight over the top of us again and it couldn’t have been more than 100ft above the river. Am guessing it was heading to / from RAF Valley in Wales.

A glorious sight and sound.

Yesterday I visited the RAF Wittering Harrier Heritage Centre.

For what looks like the very last time they were positioning their Harriers (a GR1, GR3, GR7 and a T4) in and around the original training area woods at Wittering (if you see an old pic of a Harrier positioned on a road or in the woods, if it isn’t in Germany it’s probably from here).

So, here we are:

GR1

GR3

T4

GR7

On one of my visits to Germany in the mid 80s I landed at Wieldenrath and whilst waiting for my pick up watched, probably GR 1s, taking off on a practice.

A never to be forgotten sight and sound.

Presumably when QRA didn’t mean calling a COBRA meeting……..

Quite.

My Dad was stationed at Wieldenrath in the 50s. He talked about it when I was young.

Not truly vintage, a Royale, based on a Daimler Sovereign. But given that it was 30 years ago today, I certainly feel old enough to qualify…

Duxford Canberra is being returned to RAF museum after a 50 year loan. Has been removed from hangar and parked outside for a bit but is now in the process of being disassembled.

Grandchildren coming over. Time to dig out my Mamod Traction Engine. Ah, the smell of meths and a hot boiler. Still runs very well. I should have got a shot of it in action.

For interest, 1966 Mamod TE1 traction engine.

Preparations in hand for getting the 00 gauge trains in action for Xmas. The grandchildren are all just the right age to appreciate them without breaking them (I think/hope!).
