Was joined by a cousin, a Mk.1 from a long term rebuild from New Zealand and now based in Czech Republic, at the weekend. ‘Immaculate’ doesn’t begin to describe it.
Thank you, the event in Pontefract I had completely forgotten about, and it was by chance I went shopping, the event on Friday, again I had completely forgotten about, it was only receiving a text message from a friend who owns this, telling I had to get out or else!
As others in my situation will know, it’s not easy, but life has to go on, I have a friend who lost his wife 18 months ago and he’s virtually shut up shop, no matter what I suggest, his stock answer Is No, I promised Eileen I wouldn’t go down that route.
I had the Mk4 (1980 facelift) saloon as a first car. Dark blue with a black vinyl roof. Pale blue interior. “Nice”. Previously an insurance write off. Carb fed pinto 1600, 4 speed box. Taught me a lot about rust treatment, blue paint that washed off and removable chrome wheel trims. However it also brought freedom and independence.
They were once everywhere. Now, across all Cortina models and vintages it looks like just 5000 are on the road and 3600 SORNed.
I am sadly of an age that I have owned all of the fords in those pictures. I think my 1600e mk2 was my favourite but I suspect a good one now would cost more than the 800 pounds or thereabouts mine was when new. I still think that the mk1 is the prettiest though.
