I wasn’t sure to be honest, how can you tell.
An MOT lookup of the reg says it’s a SLK 320 with a year of manufacture of 2003.
The wheels looked like they were sticking out a bit more than I would expect and the tyre size doesn’t seem to fit a vehicle of that age. The gear stick and handbrake also look wrong and too modern.

That explains everything and I will admit haven’t checked up on the MOT look up site, which is what I normally do, so thank you for taking the time to do so

A gem from the archives: one of my few involvements in motorsport at a hill climb event. I was driving my VW Golf GTI Mk. 1 with a 1.6L engine, 110 hp, and a curb weight of 810 kg. It wasn’t difficult to outdrive the other competitors, but unfortunately, nobody told me that being the fastest wasn’t the criteria for winning.

Yes, that was definitely one of the best cars of all time for me. I eventually sold it to a collector who displayed it in a showroom right next to a Mk 2 and a Mk 3 – that was already 15 years ago.

The Escort is an RS2000 or at least it is livery wise. The engine is a Ford OHC (generally known as the Pinto) and used throughout the Ford range in the 70s and 80s.
A couple of blokes called Costin and Duckworth designed a 16v DOHC for the Pinto and touring car history changed forever.
