It was very quiet with a large soundstage, as expected.
Won’t Get Fooled Again has incredible dynamics and such emotional weight I immediately replayed the second side over again.
Baba O’Riley has always had something weird going on (for me) where it seems like the mic is moving forward and then backward and continues looping in this way for much of the track. I noticed this even more on AP’s production here. The bass guitar really stands out in this track. Sounds so much more lifelike with fantastic tone and texture.
The product packaging is absolutely top notch.
So far so good, easily bests the run-of-the-mill other pressings I’ve bought used over the years.
Need to give it a couple more listens to form a final opinion on its VFM proposition.
I’m in UK, delivery dates seem to vary depending on the retailer. I’ve got this album and Tommy on order, my retailer can’t be certain of a delivery date.
I’m guessing stock is yet to arrive on these shores.
Conflicting info on Juno’s site. The product page says “coming soon” and the orders page in my account gives an estimated shipping date of 11th September, which is obviously incorrect.
I’m itching to hear this so I hope it ships very soon.
Sorry, but I feel we are in the realm of pure madness, with this sort of thing. $800 is taking the piss. You will get the same sound quality with a €10 CD copy, or a high quality download.
I am sure this is true, but I cannot believe that listening to this $800 recording, will give me more listening enjoyment than a €10 download. We are deep into an area where we are listening to the recording and the system, rather than the emotions of the music.
I have to be honest, $800 for a Reel to Reel tape isn’t my idea of value for money but for those who can afford this medium and believe that this format is as close to hearing a master recording as you can get, I understand their willingness to splash the cash.
In many ways spending large sums of money on R2R tapes is no different to those of us who upgrade our kit to as high a level as we can afford to get that extra bit out of our chosen medium.
Mine arrived today. No clicks/pops and perfectly flat.
Same mastering/metal parts as the Classic Records, but this is way better. Bigger soundstage, more/deeper/tighter bass and sweeter more refined highs. Quite amazing how plating, vinyl formula and more advanced pressing method makes such a difference to the sound.
Another stunning audiophile pressing into the collection. I’ve had a series of fantastic pressings over the past two years. IME these stupidly priced vinyls have all been worth it.
As with everything in life, one has to assess the price of things relative to one’s interests and priorities and make a decision.
I agree with your perspective too; as a buyer of recent Mobile Fidelity, Because Sound Matters, Definitive Sound Series and Analogue Production titles, the quality has been outstanding.
