Things I’ve done in the last 24 hours, version 2.0

The problem is a lot of people aren’t aware that using a room controller that communicates with the boiler via Opentherm or other type of bus increases the efficiency of the boiler.

I don’t think people realise that using a room controller that communicates to the boiler the actual room temperature and the room target temperature (and possibly other things) is more efficient than simply switching the boiler on and off.

I have a 12 year old Valliant boiler and I’ve only recently discovered I can now control through eBus using a wireless adaptor. I’ll fit one next summer, I’m not risking screwing the boiler up at this time of year.:weary_cat:

I only discovered the wireless adaptor when I googled the top of the range controller you are fitting. (BOILER CONTROLLER ENVY  ).

Is your new boiler up and running yet?

Just back from seeing End at the National Theatre in London. A new play starring Clive Owen and Saskia Reeves. He is an ageing DJ with terminal cancer and she is his novelist wife. Incredibly moving, and funny, with outrageously good performances from the two actors. Highly recommended.

Then walked to Borough Market for dinner at Rambutan, a Sri Lankan restaurant. Mutton rolls to die for

Today’s purchase, 58 vinyls in top condition for a reasonable amount of money from one of my favorite dealers, LinnArts :innocent:

Good plan :+1:

It is. Very pleased. I’ll update the Loft mounted boiler thread when I get a mo. I’ll be interested in what you’re planning to fit, control wise, to your system.

I’m intending to use a Vaillant Connect Internet Gateway connected to the boiler ebus, plus a Sensoroom wireless thermostat.

I need something simple. My wife can’t cope with complicated controls, so whatever I do I needs to get her approval.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Had a text from my credit card provider that someone tried to use my details for a rather large transaction on Bestbuy. com. They’d declined it and I confirmed that they were correct to do so. New cards incoming I suspect.

Yikes! Good that your provider informed you.

The first thing that crossed my mind was, I wonder if the text was actually from Willy’s credit card provider.

You’re just as sceptical as me then!

I did check and it’s from them. Latest in a series of communications from the same contact.

Had the call from the bank’s fraud team. Went through several recent transactions and it looks like a one off, so far. They’ve also blocked the device it was from.

Their proposal was a replacement of the cards. The cards would cease to function immediately and we’d receive replacements in 7-10 days. The fly in this particular ointment is that we’re due to fly off on holiday on Friday morning. Have other options but the Mastercard is useful, especially where Amex isn’t accepted.

Have agreed to keep the cards active for now but with a ban on on-line transactions. When we get back I’ll call them and arrange a card replacement. Then the fun begins with all the places that the existing card is registered for payments needing updated.

Me and my pickaxe handle would dearly love to have a conversation with whoever did this.

I am thinking of getting a short term credit card from a travel agent or when I next go abroad .

I think you might find the numbers on your new credit cards will remain the name but with differing dates

The chap actually said that the numbers would change. That’s what makes it such a pain.

I would recommend a Wise card for holiday transactions. I appreciate it is not a credit card but works seamlessly over any currencies. Also when we had an issue with card in US they couriered a card out to us at small charge whereas all other cards insist on sending it to your home address which is less than useful when you are on a long trip.

After removing the rear crossmember I needed to brace the floor so that a fat old bloke can get in the boot to do some welding. :slightly_smiling_face: It’s just been tacked at the ends so can be removed once the new crossmember is in.

That’s a good approach. The myVaillant app works well and is very easy to use. I had a voucher from PlumbNation so bought the Gateway a few weeks back and fitted it. Simple to install and nice and quick to setup. Mrs_n finds it easy to use too.

It’s recommended to set the hot water temperature between 60-65 to prevent harmful bacterial growth, e.g. legionella. Is yours set at 50°C, or still heating?

What is required in commercial premises is totally different to one’s own home. Legionella is a thing with stagnant water so it’s not really relevant, and it’s dormant between 45° and 50°. In the summer we have it at 48°.

To heat to 60° you need a flow temperature of 70°, which is hugely inefficient. In the world of heat pumps, around 50° is the sort of temperature that most set for their hot water.

General advice is cold water keep below 25 ( 20 preferably) degrees, hot water above 49 (50 preferably) degrees to avoid legionella proliferating. If you have a second home, heat the water to above 55 degrees for two hours to kill of any legionella growth, before using.
