Things I’ve done in the last 24 hours, version 2.0

A periodic heat to 60c is sufficient. Normally with an immersion the installer is required to fit.

When we had the Combi boiler installed the old hot water cylinder was removed.

This is what we drained out of it

i think most hot water solution added with a heat pump system contain a resistance which can be scheduled periodically to heat up to 60degC. At least ours does. The periodic heating of the water using the heat pump is set to 50 degC which is scheduled during the day which is usually on the solar. This seems to be reasonably reliable for nice days

Surely the six ducks would have clogged it up somewhat!

Went to see mbv at Aviva last night. Took my own ear plugs. Despite the claims of 130Db we only measured 103 for most of the gig and 111 at peak. Nevertheless I took a break at 11 songs in and, judging by the fact my tinnitus is stable today, that was a good decision.

Enjoyed the gig although the band are nothing to look at and the so-called stellar backdrop and lighting were nothing of the sort. Poorly done if anything.

The venue though. Oh dear. Some good stuff going on there but what an absolute mess of a venue. Designed by imbeciles. Actually, scratch that. Arguably designed by teenagers for teenagers.

Amusingly I was on a train on Saturday with someone who turned out to work there and knows the access team. He was very clear that their access team is aiming to make them the most accessible venue in the UK. Apparently I failed to suppress my derisive snort and was advised that they were desperate to improve and would welcome complaints. I’ll wait to see if they do a post gig survey but if not then there will be some comments from me. Unsurprisingly it will be the same old same old with some new and added incompetencies.

Thanks, I would never have got there.

I’ve just exchanged contracts on my new house in London, for completion 12th December. I’ll be fully moved for the 23rd. (Might do the system after Christmas.)

It’s been a long process, glad to have (near) closure.

That’s brilliant news, Eoin. As you say it seems to have taken absolutely ages. And you’ll be installed in time for Christmas. I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Toddled over to John Lewis in Chichester today and ordered a Samsung fridge-freezer.

While there, we looked at TVs and tried the soundbar on demo (this is related to my thread in the Home Theatre section).

Impressed with the TVs. Unimpressed with the soundbar!

Very important step that. A friend of mine needs to move into a property with no stairs and was expecting to exchange contracts on both the sale of his old place (a 3rd floor flat) and the purchase of the new one (a “retirement bungalow”) in about a week’s time, but his purchaser has just unexpectedly pulled out without warning.

(Hekla) Is what you need.

, HH suggested the same in my other thread!

The one we were listening to this morning was pretty awful, and it was on the demo display - press this button for an amazing experience, etc…

Care to name the brand/model?

Not on a public forum. With the lawyers listening in!

I don’t think we’ll be replacing the Meridian 5.1 DSP system anytime soon.

Lol…I remember when they set up a Muso in menswear in our store (JL). I stopped to listen to it - on my break (in case any of my managers are on this Forum!) - it sounded ordinary and dull. Even dreadful.

OTOH the ladies in the JL fridge-freezer section were brilliant - helpful, knowledgable, and listened & understood our particular circumstances. All credit to them

After a GP visit last week, I was sent for an X-ray of my shoulder because the metal work and after effects of my cancer treatment are causing a lot of pain at the moment. Because I was still having some mild ongoing pain in a couple of ribs and a smoker over 30 years ago, she thought I should have another chest X-ray.

At around 1.20, I arrived at the hospital, for the drop in service, at 1.45, the X-rays were taken. Just after 5.15ish, I got a message from my GP where she passed on a summary of the report, which in summary said, metal work looked okay, but obscured the sites of bone breaks, so much the same as before. Chest X-ray was clear, but a couple of ribs showed signs of breaks that are healing well. X-rays last year didn’t show them, a few weeks after I clipped a bush whilst cycling last August, and the bruising likely hid these breaks. This now explains the severe chest pains I was getting last year.

People complain about the NHS a lot at the moment. But I think this was pretty amazing. Around 4 hours after having the X-rays, I was given an update by my GP about the results. Now I have to decide if I want to be referred back to my orthopaedic surgeon or not. When I saw him last, the options were surgery to remove the metal work, which he advised against due to damage to my shoulder area from radiotherapy or leave it in and hope the pain lessens. If anything, it has got worse, and I’m reluctant to take stronger analgesics, which was an option when I last saw him.

Also, the car is in for an MOT and a major service. I dropped it off before going to the hospital. The car failed on a couple of things I discovered mid-afternoon, and a part won’t arrive till Thursday, so hopefully it will be ready Friday. A silver lining to this is that a planned meeting with a family member will have to be closer to me now, as it has to be somewhere I can catch a bus to, and there is a cafe that serves eastern Mediterranean food I want to try for lunch after discovering it recently, which is a 20 to 30-minute bus journey away for me, so a silver lining to not having the car for a few days.

Had an Orthopaedic appointment for my hip today. Went to the hospital, and saw the doctor, who watched me struggle in with my stick, and sit down. Basically, he said that I need a total new hip, and that he had put me on the urgent list two weeks ago. A bit dumbstruck at first, he did a brief examination, and showed us some scans, pretty bad. I agreed, and asked about timing, urgent is up to three months, I asked about options, private, and he said with all of my other issues, the NHS is the best option. Okay, I expected to plead for help, but it had all been decided a couple of weeks ago, following my GP’s letter. Walked away very pleased, but an anti-climax?
