Drove from Italy (36 Celsius during the day) to Tyrol (18 Celsius upon arrival in the evening). Jumped in the “pool” for a swim (22 Celsius).

I replaced a mortice lock in my inner front door this morning. There were no keys for it when I moved here; it was one of those jobs stuck on the I must get around to doing list. Thought it would be an easy take-out-and-replace job, but I needed to do a bit of woodwork to get the new one to line up with the existing keyholes. One of the cats happened to stroll past as I was on my knees by the front door and gave me a look that seemed to say, WTF are you up to now, human?

At 5.30 am I was washing the Granada Mk3. Followed by clay bar, Poor Boys SSR 2 & 1 and finally Autoglym SRP. All machine polished apart from the buffing off.
And then it was too hot to start cleaning the interior.

Another day. Another meal with the god son and fiancé. His choice this time so off to Oldham Road for the low key looking Pho Number One which sits directly over the road from the Royal Mail building next to the Wing Yip supermarket. Means something if you know Manchester.
I wouldn’t have given it a second look but, fair play, it was fantastic and ludicrously cheap.

My Audi A5 went in for it’s annual MOT yesterday, to my regular garage, who send the cars elsewhere for testing.
They called me after lunch to tell me that it had passed, though it otherwise would have failed due to misaligned screen wash jets, but rather than fail the car and order a re-test, the smashing guy just fixed the problem, free of charge, and issued a pass certificate.
Now I know that the job is a quick couple of minutes fix, but he didn’t have to do that, which just goes to show that there are still nice people about.
I’m obviously chuffed with my pass, but the smile on my face is more down to the kindness shown by the MOT tester.

French system is quite strict. The examination centre is just that, not a garage that fixes anything, purely a test centre. I always drop a couple of pain au raisin back after the car has been through. This time there was a query on a transposed letter on one of the docs that I hadn’t noticed ( and the French like their documents to be correct). Test guy looks at me and says, you will get this corrected immediately, and then passes the CT to me. A pain au raisin goes a long way.

The genius of HMRC. Still have the wrong tax code more than a year after ill-health retirement because they insist I’m getting ESA when it actually stopped in March 2025. Can’t fix it online because it insists ESA is an employment and therefore they require info from a P45. No way of notifying a change of circumstances online. Chat bot won’t connect to a human as there’s non available at present. Now in their legendary phone queue. At the 20 minute mark I’m expecting to be disconnected.
Some other options if you’re hearing impaired. Nothing working if you’re visually impaired.
There are still people insisting HMRC hasn’t been privatised. Sweetly naive.
Same system here with dedicated MoT test centres. Problem is that being run by Government they have significant lead times on booking a test. Currently for our local test centre it’s about 3 months. At one point they were over 6 months.

Blddy eck. That’s bad. Here I can usually book within a few days online if I don’t mind an 8:30 slot. A more reasonable 11am would be next week.
I booked mine in June and got a slot in October! Nonsense.
