I do. It’s a 50-75 for the mains journals.
The 0-25 was given to me by a nice chap who I knew from a local engineering place.
Lol. As an apprentice I worked in the toolroom of a GKN company. Slip gauges were treated with velvet gloves and kept lightly oiled before being wiped down for use. That and a packet of Rizla were the standard for setting up any measure.
When Ben and I arrived today, Sarah was walking along the corridor on her own, she no longer needs a chaperone, so great news. The physio had worked her very hard again, steps up and down, and she was exhausted, uncomfortable but good. I get the feeling that they are preparing her for the outings.
She is a little nervous about the home visit on Monday, in case they say it’s not okay to visit home yet, and so am I.
I’m scanning each room that I can’t close the door on for any issues. The good thing is that we went through a difficult time when she had her knees done, so we are clued on a few things.
Fingers and everything else crossed.
Back in the early 80s I did a “Graduate Apprenticeship” at Winfrith in Dorset. Over 3 months they fast tracked us through a little bit of everything. I recall our instructor relating a story about about a previous apprentice who, unable to find the correct spanner to tighten a tool in a lathe instead used a micrometer.
Turned out (eventually) to be the best welder they ever had. Quite possibly at that time the best in the country.
Willy.
You naughty boy

Take care @Eoink.
It’s my birthday next week so yesterday my daughter took me out for the day. We started with lunch at a brilliant Italian cafe, Italo Deli, in the heart of old Vauxhall where the squats used to be in the 60’s and 70’s. Area still has a very ‘independent’ feel to it. Then we walked to Kennington for a tour and tasting at the Beefeater distillery - great fun and highly recommended. Then back to Vauxhall for espressos and pastel de natas at Cafe Madeira - best pastels in London. Then into St James’ for gin martinis at Dukes hotel. Top martinis but seriously strong ( I reckon they are quadruple measures). Then to Islington for a brilliant curry at the Tamil Crown, pub turned Tamil restaurant. And finally Kate Rusby at the Union Chapel. Top day and top daughter
It’s nice to spend quality time with your grown up kids. A top day indeed. ![]()
Reminds you what’s important in life. Life is short and we need to enjoy it while we can. Too many people - both on the forum and in the outside world - expending negative energy on what is ultimately just ‘stuff’.
Sounds an amazing day , and a happy birthday for next week
Cheers!
Amazing day, what a fantastic daughter and a great venue to finish at.
Just weeded and redug one of two small beds in the front garden. Would normally have spent all day in the garden doing such things but haven’t been physically capable of doing so since 2022 so this was very cautiously undertaken and I’m now briefly resting having emptied two water bottles of water in the early morning heat. Front garden is east facing so it was full on and my albinism means either slathering myself in high factor cream or covering up so I went for covering up and sweated it out as I normally do.
Came in to post explaining I’ve been placed in the ESA Supoort Group following my submission of a mandatory reconsideration. Of no real consequence as my ESA will eventually stop from the date I received my first occupational pension. Just means that the small overpayment from that date can be offset a tad with the arrears they owe me. I’m trying to hide my professional disappointment as I was looking forward to ripping apart their immensely incompetent initial decision at an appeal tribunal.
Cue skeptical…
