Tour de France 2022

So very true but I love those great French landscapes.

Yes, we usually have it on whilst working just as a summer distraction. French songs, chilled drinks, laptop on the lap and responding to emails.

Cooking around finish time. The rest days feel odd.

Different here late cold winters nights under a rug.

Just hope it will be great fun and not too much influenced by accidents and COVID

Indeed, like this one

Accidents, Covid …and idiots.

Friday 1st July 2022

Stage One - Copenhagen - Copenhagen ITT (13.3 km)

A flat course just over 8 miles which translates into to a quarter of an hour of non-stop fast and frantic riding for the have a go time trail specialists and all the potential GC men, however the weather looks dodgy, rain :cloud_with_lightning_and_rain: possibly heavy :umbrella: moving in at around the start time could dampen efforts and possibly compromise safety.
Let’s hope no one crashes out and ends their tour before it begins proper.

A bit of a low key start I thought. Although the weather didn’t help. Quite of riders were taking it very steady. But a surprise winner which is novel in TT.

The sprint stages of recent years seem to provide a more interesting start so tomorrow looks like it may be more fun.

With the very wet conditions on stage 1, it wasn’t surprising to see riders being extra cautious in the higher risk areas of the course, to avoid an early race exit.

Looking forward to watching the first proper competitive race today.

Indeed, as David Millar said, none of the GC contenders were going to take risks in those conditions

I think “Boardman 1995” was on most riders minds yesterday.

Gravel rash would have been on mine.

The reason for GT’s slow start revealed - he had a gilet on to warm up and forgot to take it off so didn’t have full benefit of aerosuit!

Stage two: Roskilde - Nyborg (202.2km)

Flat stage today, albeit with a trio of category 4 climbs about third of the way in, and most probably far too short to cause concern.
The final miles over the ‘Storebælt’ (The Great Belt Bridge) will be an interesting spectacle, especially if it’s windy up there, sprint train positioning will be vital.

I wonder if Saga will be there watching (?)
…her bridge is not far away - on the Copenhagen side of this island mass.

Today’s Times described not taking off his gilet before descending the ramp as a “schoolboy mistake”. Afterwards GT told the paper, “Then, the first few corners, I was cornering like my wife, and she hasn’t ridden a bike for twelve years. Mate, it was unbelievable.”

Marginal Fails :joy::joy:

You wouldn’t want to go off this bridge, after a couple of falls they’re moving towards the centre. Not sure who’s done the risk assessment but I bet they’re holding their breath.
