Yes. The barriers at the side looked quite low compared to a man on a bike. You often see riders fly up in the air in a crash.
I’m still struggling to get my head round an 18km bridge.

An unfortunate crash on the bridge, to include the yellow jersey Lampaert, may have caused his loss of GC leadership over his countryman, Wout Van Aert who’s 2nd place gained him 6 bonus seconds, but the yellow jersey stays with Jumbo Visma.
Van Aert also holds the green jersey - which in tomorrow’s stage three will be worn on loan to 2nd points place Fabio Jakobsen.
After winning 3 KOM points today, Magnus Cort Nielsen will be sporting the polkadot jersey tomorrow, the only one so far with any mountain points

Too many messy crashes today for my liking, hope things settle down safer tomorrow…

Stage 3 Vejle - Sønderborg (182km)
Today’s Stage Three is 20km less than yesterday and again has a trio of category 4 climbs plus is generally more gradient lumpier terrain along the way, however nothing to trouble the outcome of a full stampede sprint finish. With a rest day tomorrow there could be many have a go attacks and some full vigour action today.
Given EF’s new kit that could be a horrendous colour combination

Three great days in Denmark. I really enjoy these foreign Grand Departs.
You seem to get a lot more enthusiasm from the crowds and it really gets the race off to a great start.
Separate point: Is it time to replace the White Jersey competition? How about a jersey for the over 35s?
Would that be the maillot gris, sponsored by Viagra? I’ll get me coat.
And testosterone is allowed as a supplement?
Sponsored by model train companies too.
Maillot Triangles Bleus, n’est pas?
It was a shame about the crash at 10.4km before the finish of Stage 3, about a dozen or so actually crashed in the pile up which held up half the peloton to the tune of 40 + seconds to include quite a few potential GC men. This is only shown in a couple of changes in top ten GC positions but that 40 seconds of crash delay time for some will be very hard to get back, especially as the main protagonists of Van Aert, Pogačar, and Roglič very luckily got home in the sprit finish without this delay.

Stage 4 Dunkerque - Calais (171.5km)
The tour arrives in France.
Today’s course is persistantly hilly with a sextet of 4th category hills along the course.

Happy Birthday Philippe Gilbert!
Born 5th July 1982 in Verviers, Belgium
The eldest competitor of the tour just became older; 40 years Today!

Wout Van Aert certainly caught everyone napping on the final 4th category climb, a very unusual thing for the yellow jersey to break away and win on the closing miles that should have been up for the sprinters, and poor Jasper Philipsen who for a few seconds thought he’d won - not realising the yellow jersey was 8 seconds up the road and already finished.
Van Aert really did want that win after finishing the first three stages in 2nd place, but is he over doing the effort too soon? …the remainder of this week is all hilly courses and two mountain stages…

Plus: it’s good news no one has abandoned yet, 176 starters still present and correct.

Stage 5 Lille - Wallers-Arenberg (157km)
Today’s stage would seem short at 157km, but it includes over 19km of bone-jarring energy sapping nerve jangling cobbles; split into 11 sections along the second half of the course. It’s what all those funny number flags are in the profile picture above ^
We have to pray it doesn’t rain, or there will be blood, broken bones, pain etc…
…a fantastic finish! I am enjoying the tour so far this year and it is great that all the teams are intact. We will see if everyone is still in the race following tomorrow’s race on the multiple sections of cobblestones. Looking forward to it…
It appears it is the complete opposite that the riders need to cope with - the dryness and dust!
The praying must of worked then!

A frantic day of worry for Jumbo-Visma but Wout Van Aert cobbled together enough damage limitation to hang on to the yellow jersey, Neilson Powless gains 2nd GC place.
Ineos Grenadiers gain the Team classification lead (the wearing of bright yellow helmets is the badge of honour for this).
The jersey wearers remain unchanged.
Two abandonments:
Michael Gogl Alpecin-Deceuninck
Jack Haig Bahrain - Victorious

Stage 6 Binche - Longwy (219.9km)
The longest stage of the 2022 Tour de France actually starts in Belgium and spends 69km in the country before crossing back into France. It’s very hilly and there will be tired legs after yesterday’s cobbles, it’s probably the GC men will favour a non GC threat breakaway to go on ahead so the peloton can recuperate and keep their powder dry for tomorrow’s mountain stage with summit finish.
An amazing day’s racing. Barely controlled chaos.
Good result. I suspect Powless may be asking his teammate, Bettiol, why he was so keep to help Pogacar chase him down. Odd.
