Tour de France 2022

Surely that accolade should go to Jasper Stuyven (Trek-Segafredo) :ok_hand:

Stuyven didn’t have a teammate up the road so made more sense to me.

Bettiol has apologised to Powless this morning

A convincing win for Pogačar and also gaining the yellow jersey, he also holds the white young riders jersey - which on tomorrow’s Stage 7 will be worn on loan to 2nd place Tom Pidcock (GBr) Ineos Grenadiers.

Wout Van Aert finished 103rd position at 7:28 down, losing the yellow jersey he will on Stage 7 undergo a complete colour change with the Green Jersey plus winning the combative award, due to his amazing breakaway, wear the red bib numbers too.

Van Aert’s breakaway partner, 21 year old Quinn Simmons (USA) Trek-Segafredo finished at 11:28 down, a brave attempt ending in disappointment for the youngest rider in the tour, …it’s strange that with his beard he looks older than Philippe Gilbert

Stage 7 Tomblaine - La Super Planche des Belles Filles (176.3km)

Stage seven begins with some smaller hills, before reaching the jewel in its crown: the 7km La Super Planche des Belles Filles.
The ascent averages 8.7%, but it’s littered with steeper sections, the final kilometre in particular is a dirt road, which ramps up to 25% close to the line.

I enjoyed the stage 7 race but with today’s finish the race may have to be renamed to the ‘Tour de Tadej in France.’ He does look unstoppable and can win on demand.

A consecutive win for Tadej, and on his way to owning three jerseys, Magnus Cort holds on to his polkadot by just one slim point.

A Trek supporter writes:
It was disheartening to see Giulio Ciccone and Mads Pedersen drop away from the 2 minute breakaway on the Col de Grosse Pierre, however i think this may of been tactical; a couple of the breakaways guys were a GC threat so the peloton were very unlikely to let them gain enough lead as to not get caught, if this is true then it was a sensible decision to not waste the energy. Ciccone is biding his time to find the right stage to win.
Meanwhile team Trek are one man down after Alex Kirsch abandoned during Stage 6.

Stage 8 Dole - Lausanne (186.3km)

I think this will be a Bauke Mollema attack day today

Yes, it looks sort of inevitable in terms of the GC.

Love watching Wout Van Aert at the moment though! A terrific and entertaining rider!

There are lots of reasons why it is not decided yet. Corona plays a significant role and Van Aerts team is much better than Pogi’s. I would be sad to see Pogi win every time.

I did enjoy the Chris Froome era but when you get one rider that’s so dominant it can be a little… predictable.

Wout Van Aert looks very strong for the Green Jersey this year. With no Cav, I found myself cheering him on. I picked up a few photos of him last year in the Tour of Britain.

Well a fantastic finish on today’s stage with Wout Van Aert wining the sprint finish! A grueling climb then a fabulous sprint to the finish…

  9. Bob Jungels (Lux) AG2R Citroën Team

(no changes to jersey wearers or GC)

Incredible to see Wout Van Aert win again, and he now has 115 green jersey points more than his nearest rival, and looks likely to take it all the way to Paris.
Impressive performance of young Brits; Tom Pidcock again, and Fred Wright the final breakaway rider to get caught on the final climb and imo deserved the combatively award, however that honour went to Mattia Cattaneo who will be wearing the red bib numbers tomorrow.

Amazing ride from Jungels. Going solo with 60km to go is great when it works.

Good to see Fred Wright in the break on the day before as well.

The GC may be a bit of a process but there are some interesting side stories.

Yes, someone new in the polkadot jersey :red_circle: :red_circle: :red_circle:

It’s not only good to see someone winning it other than Tadej who very nearly bagged it for a third jersey to wear, but the mountains classification is turning out competitive.

Still a long way to go, anything can happen and it usually does.

Stage 10 Morzine - Megève (148.1km)

A short and very hilly stage today, there will be those who will want to attack and drive this fast, and others who want to save it for tomorrow’s and Wednesday’s proper mountain stages. Will be interesting to see what happens…

Today’s final climb to the summit finish.
