Tour de France 2022

Indeed, brilliant tour so far. For so many years the race has been controlled by certain teams it’s great to see some real racing. G is in great form, he’s a big Diesel engine and rides his own pace rather than react to the punchy attacks :muscle:

Watched yesterday live and loved it. I have never been a great fan of Froome but that ride yesterday was amazing in the context of his injuries.

Pidcock is a monster talent. His MTB win was a highlight of the Olympics for me.

Pogacar also showed he is not done though, and the Tour is far from over. Thomas is hanging tight, long TT later might keep him in the podium?

This is turning into quite the tour. Amazing ride from Pidcock and great to see Froome regain some form after that horrific accident. Geraint Thomas doing a great job as well.

The Vingegaard vs Pogačar battle is excellent but the all round effort from Wout Van Aert is incredible to see. You think he’s fading as he drops way back only to find he’s gone back to help a team mate or grab a few drinks for everyone. He’s just in top form at the moment!

Stage 13 Bourg d’Oisans - Saint-Etienne (192.6km)

Classified as a flat stage but with hills in the mix that could be launch-pads for attacks, however the expected outcome is a finish for the sprinters.

Happy days for Danish cycling! :denmark::denmark::denmark: (and a great Tour so far)

It was a deserved win. Not as spectacular as the previous 2 days, but still nice!

A Trek supporter writes:

Up until now the Trek team have had an uneventful tour, rarely in the top ten finishers, well down in the Team classification, Mollema hasn’t stretched his legs yet, Alex Kirsch abandoned during Stage 6, and star performer Giulio Ciccone has been uncharacteristically lack lustre despite getting into breakaways but always getting dropped and caught (there is talk of him still recovering from a tummy bug last week, maybe this is why…). If Ciccone had hung on with the breakaway going up L’Alpe d’Huez he’d been wearing the polkadot jersey now. Perhaps they’re all saving themselves for the final week…

Anyway, great to see Mads Pedersen chalk up a Stage win! :+1:

Stage 14 Saint-Etienne - Mende (192.5km)

A long hard hilly stage today, culminating with a short but steepish summit finish that could produce another entertaining Tadej and Jonas showdown!

I think this is actually the stage 13 results (Bourg d’Oisans - Saint-Etienne).

Mathews. Wow. What a ride.

Today we had two excellent bike races for the price of one, an astonishing win of Michael Matthews who also received the stage 14 combatively award, and finishing 12 minutes 34 seconds later Tadej and Jonas rocket up the La côte de la Croix Neuve in tandem.

Neilson Powless moves up the Mountain jersey classification to 3rd place.

Where did Matthew’s find the energy to close the gap and storm past Bettiol in such style? Outstanding!

Yeah, not bad for a sprint rider.

I was cheering him on quite loudly at the end. I really thought Bettiol and even some others would get past him on the mountain. Outstanding ride all day and then that finish.

Stage 15: Rodez - Carcassonne (202.5km)

Listed as a long flat stage albeit slightly hilly with much descending but with a duo of 3rd category climbs to slow down progress.
The final rest day tomorrow could bring some fast aggressive bike racing today.

OTL : Michael Mørkøv :denmark: Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team

DNF : Steven Kruijswijk :netherlands: Jumbo-Visma

Trek-Segafredo team spent a lot a energy with a long range lead-out for Mads Pedersen (and more crucially to drop the pure sprinters on the final 3rd category climb) and the plan nearly worked with Mads finishing 3rd having been beaten to the finish line by Jasper Philipsen and Wout van Aert.

But the real talk of this stage is the unfortunate crash of Kruijswijk, the second Jumbo Visma abandonment of the day, this is bad news for Vingegaard who needs as much team support as possible to have any hope of winning this tour against the mighty Poga.

Michael Mørkøv arrived home at 1:05:40 and OTL (outside time limit)

The last man to finish inside the time limit at 20:34 down in 152nd place was Caleb Ewan who continues to struggle in this tour.

Think Celeb will struggle to finish, he didn’t look good. Shame, at least he gets a jersey even if it’s black.

Just for a bit of fun on the rest day, and taking it as a given that Vingegaard and Pogačar will be on the podium at Paris, and regardless to which position…

Who do you think will also finish on the podium at Paris?

  • Geraint Thomas
  • Romain Bardet
  • Adam Yates
  • Nairo Quintana
  • Louis Meintjes
  • David Gaudu
  • Thomas Pidcock
  • Enric Mas
  • Other (please state who)
