MOUNTAINS CLASSIFICATION BEFORE STAGE 14
Tadej PogaÄar (Slo) UAE Team Emirates, 36 points
Jonas Abrahamsen (Nor) Uno-X Mobility, 36 points
Jonas Vingegaard (Den) Visma-Lease a bike, 28 points
Remco Evenepoel (Bel) Soudal-Quick Step, 18 points
Valentin Madouas (Fra) Groupama-FDJ, 16 points
I only caught the last 25km of the stage, from what I saw it was another entertaining stage. I am unsure if this is because the organisers have devised a great set of stages or if the riders competing for each of the jerseys are providing the action or a mix of the two.
Whilst Tadej is slowly creeping further into the lead and has to be the favourite, he hasnât sealed the win yet and Jonas could turn it around with a big stage win next week. Tomorrow I think will determine whether the positions are set or the last week will be where it could be decided.
This is beginning to look like the Giro again; no one can keep up with Tadej.
Today Tadej PogaÄar showed his class and itâs a tough act to follow, however with 7 stages to go itâs far from over yet, anything can happen and it usually does.

A creeping concern is competitors falling foul of Covid, either testing positive or experiencing the systemic symptoms. Plus many riders have abandoned due to not feeling well, whatever that means, and these riders are not all bunking off for the Olympics.
UAE Team Emirates knew that Juan Ayuso had tested positive for Covid 19, it was a faint positive so he was allowed to continue, he kept separated from the other team members which must have had a lonesome effect on the 21 year old Spaniard.
Perhaps this is why he decided to abandon yesterday (?) or more likely he didnât want to risk spreading it to his team mates.
Rumours of illnesses sweeping around the peloton are abound.
I hope it doesnât happen and spoil the show, but it worries me to see spectators at point blank range on the gradients cheering encouragement / gob shouting microscopic missiles of spittle at their ascending idolised demigods breathing in the air at full capacity lung flap.
Stage 14 wasnât all bad for Vingegaard, his two consolations are overtaking Remco Evenepoel to gain 2nd place on GC, plus tomorrowâs Stage 15 he gets to wear the Polka Dots after becoming 2nd in the KOM.
PogaÄar owns the Polka Dot jersey but this will be loaned out to Vingegaard
A day for the GC guys, the KOM, and French stage hunters for âBastille Dayâ and with a rest day tomorrow maybe a more determined breakaway - plenty of stage hunters looking for an opportunist win.
But this is a long and difficult stage with every likelihood of claiming more victims.
Andy Schleck, after yet another boring stage featuring yet another one of his trademark failed attacks, claimed that the PdB wasnât hard enough to get away on. Weâll see tomorrow.
The one that looks like a six foot banana on a bicycle is Tadej PogaÄar
Yes they will woosh past very quick, better to position oneself on a hill where the riders slow down on the gradient - they still come at you very fast but not as fast as on the flat.
If itâs a bit impractical or too crowded out then best not worry and soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the moment
Tadej looked so assured and not the slightest bit flustered I really cant see anyone stopping him now
If he rides the Vuelta he could easily achieve a triple of Grand TourâsâŠtheres a thought.
Although its not a given that he will win this tour but barring a bad crash or illness hes just a beast on the bike and just so strong .
Another thought were is Geraint Thomas âŠhe seems to have vanished ?
Thanks mate that makes sense a fit G would be at least in the top 15 on G.C
I like Geraint he just keeps going doesnât he.He must be 36 - 38 now I guess ?
