Stage 11 was wonderful! They kicked into high gear and raced from start to finish. Strong breakaway and they must of felt confident they would go the distance… unfortunately UAE had a different idea and Tadej and team was going to show thier dominance.

Jonas has demonstrated, once again, that he is a competive animal and persevered and got the result as he crossed the finish line ahead of Todej.

Perhaps it was the ‘no balls’ comment a few days ago that lit the pilot light and got the engine running!

Hope there is more of that type of racing in the days ahead!

Life is Sweet!

Mark Cavendish relegated (from 5th to 68th) for ‘deviation’.
It would seem what was once the usual competitive jostling for position in the olden days is no longer allowed.
It’s understandable they want to make the sport safer but the final 200m sprint is a rather jumble-up of positional luck, judgement, and stampeding heard mentality. It’s spectacular but not for the faint-hearted.
I can accept Cav may have been at fault but hope he doesn’t bow out the sport on a sour note.

<>

Meanwhile, Primož Roglič down again at no fault of his own, so unlucky.
I hope he wins a stage before Nice, and no more crashes.

<>

The Green Jersey leadership has been confirmed with Biniam Girmay’s third stage victory. He only needs to take it all the way to Nice.

<>

Just a strange observation but half the UAE team are in the top ten GC

Same with football. Money talks.

Footballers wouldn’t be able to do a stage in a grand tour
They moan if they have to play a match say 3 days apart even funnier if its say a Saturday and an early kick off say 11.30 am
I appreciate they are different sports and cyclists are endurance athletes but it makes me really laugh when you hear about a footballer and he covered 10 miles in that game on the pitch.I say hes probably being payed an avearage 4 - 7 million to do it.Big deal.
They really strike me as a bunch of overpayed pampered racehorses .
Cyclists just get on with it no whinging and risk their lives on any race
I mean they could be paralysed by a horror crash or worse.
Sorry to have a rant I am not saying pro cyclists aren’t well payed but they really earn it

Stage 13 : Agen - Pau (165.3km)

Tomorrow (Saturday) there is a rather formidable mountain stage looming so maybe the peloton will take today steady. The GC guys certainly won’t want to burn any matches plus the sprinters will sense another chance of a sprint finish if they cope with those roller coaster humps on the way in.
However, this is good bandit attack terrain and if a determined breakaway does get away, it maybe too difficult for the sprint trains to catch them on the narrow winding route to Pau.

Stage 13 racing results produced no changes in the top classifications however the abandonments of two top ten GC performers caused a shift up one or two positions from 6th to 10th.

Disappointing but no big surprise Primož Roglič withdrew after his crash yesterday.
He was holding 4th place on GC before the crash, and the delay it caused lost him two minutes and two places down to 6th place.

Plus 9th GC positon, UAE Team Emirates member Juan Ayuso, a climber and important helper in the mountains for Tadej Pogačar.
Ayuso tested positive for Covid 19 before Stage 13 but allowed to start due to the test result being weak, however Ayuso wasn’t feeling well during the stage so decided to abandon. He is due to ride in the Olympics: Mens Elite Road Race on 3rd August.

Stage 14 : Pau - Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla d’Adet (151.9km)

The first summit finish of this tour (and the second is tomorrow).

A day for Jonas to close down his 1:14 time deficit.
Tadej Pogačar maybe the strongest allrounder but Vingegaard commands an excellent power to weigh ratio for climbing, and today is a day he could take time out of the Yellow Jersey.
