Townsend Podiums, and a few Facts

Yes, I did decide to use the Podiums instead of the Gaia’s.

Well have some podiums, so i guess we can see which suits me better.
Podiums V isoacoustic gaia, let the fight begin.

Let us know how you get on Dunc. I suspect that the Podiums are more expensive and more effective.
We use the Gaia primarily for aesthetic reasons. Shallow, I know !

Best regards, BF

Please Bluesfan, don’t be too hard on yourself in this day and age! Best Peter

Love to know how you get on too Dunc.

Will do once i have completed my findings

Well its been 2 days now and in that time i have gone from gaia 3, to standard spikes, to podiums, back to gaia’s and then finally back to podiums.
My room is on the ground floor, has a solid concrete floor with solid 25mm oak boards glued to the concrete.
Easily the worst are the spikes, in this comparison. They still sound nice, but the bass is far more bloated, the rest not so clear and sounds closed in.
The gaia’s, sort out the bass, straight away, the bloated sound goes and you are left with nice deep bass, the rest also benefits from an uplift, becoming clearer and easier to follow, to be far, i didnt think the podiums would be much different.
Well i was very wrong, the difference is as great as the spikes to the gaia’s, the bass has lost a bit i feel, but its even faster, the mids, the treble is just on a different level, its like a different pair of speakers. Didn’t think i could get more detail, but i have, its so clear, its so easily to hear the information, instruments just sound much nicer, i am quite shocked really.
Had to play around with speaker placement, due to a few reasons, one the difference in width it has now, also pushed the speakers back towards the wall more, by a good 100mm, this has also helped a bit in bass, which is nice, as the podiums are quite large and its been nice to be able to push them back more.
So very pleased with them and goes to show, sometimes you just need to try these things.

Spikes chuck them in the cupboard.
Gaia’s, if on a budget or tight for space, then well worth the £400 new price
Podiums easily the best, but 3 times the price of the gaia’s and large, looks are certainly going to be divided on them, if i knew that i could get away with having the speakers further back with the podiums then i might have gone for them from the start, but i didnt.
Worth 3 times the price, for me YES easily
I certainly recommend you try these with whatever speakers you use, thats how good i think they are.
Left it a couple of days just to make sure its the same the next day, pleased to say it is, so confident to post up

Good result , similar to my findings.

That’s the thing with Podiums , they just make everything so much better.

Expensive yes but not for what they do !

This can be scary the first time you give them a push, as they do wobble

Still shocked by them really, wasn’t expecting such a difference over the gaia’s at all.
Just going through my favourite play list and can’t ever remember enjoying it so much, it’s got me riveted to my chair

What struck me was how many years i have been using spikes , getting them level , making sure the speaker was really firmly anchored to the floor . Then this happens.

Still love to give mine a gentle push

Live and learn !

Thanks for sharing Dunc, they look great under your fact12s. I note that PMC have today announced some walnut veneer at long last for the fact 8/12 signature range. Both items now on my shopping list.

Trust me these fact 12 speakers should come with these as standard, remarkable.
Just been told to stop my music, as a bit loud and misses cant hear the tv over it in the other room lol.
But haven’t enjoyed my music this much since i got the rossini

I did read in a review of Pete Thomas’ listening room that PMC were bundling Podiums with some of their speakers .

The Podiums were also shown in the previous PMC ‘se series’ catalogue and listed as an optional extra for the MB2 XBD se. Interestingly though they are not shown in the current catalogue.

I think they look very nice, and might get a pair one day, but I have a few other priorities first. I was just on their website Dunc, and I see they have 5 different sizes. Then some chart about 4 load cell configuration for weight I assume. Can I ask you how you figured out what size you needed, and what goes between your speaker and the podium? I used to have Gaia 111’s under Dyn XD 600’s, but right now I just use my homemade cups and balls on granite slabs underneath my Peak Consult speakers. I wonder if some speakers work better with the Podiums than others, or do they improve ALL speakers?

I had the same reaction when I put them under my Apogee Scintillas a couple of years ago. Hard to believe. Easily the best upgrade I ever made.

I already knew which size and loading i needed, but you can email Townshend and they will guide you on what you need

Dunc- How do the Fact 12s mount to the podiums? I think from your pic you’ve removed the spikes from the “outriggers”. Do the podiums screw in to the outriggers somehow? Or do they just sit there? Any concerns about stability? I ask because we have dogs and kids. The Fact 12s on their own hardware are stable enough I don’t worry, but if they’re just sitting on top of another platform (which is known to be a little wobbly on its own) without their regular spike supports I’d be a little nervous. What do you think?
