Townsend Podiums, and a few Facts

I have dogs as well, but my kids are grown up now.
The speakers just sit on top off the podiums, if you knock anything hard enough it will topple, not sure if on the podiums it makes them worse or not, as now they can move, but stay upright in doing so.
I guess if really worried you could drill 4 small hokes in the podiums and fix the plate to the fact 12 speakers, using the spike holes but with some correct bolts?
I certainly not going to lose any sleep over it.

Dunc
Would you use the Podiums on carpet as well?

Max at Townshend has confirmed they work on carpet, saying they were developed on carpetšŸ‘

Hi Dunc, I’m really chuffed for you, that they seem to be delivering the goods :+1:t3: In my view at our level it is a cheap upgrade for what they deliver.
As for the setting up of the Podiums, may I suggest to at the end having mocked about with speaker placement just to check the alignment of the plastic floor-cups to the actual outrigger above and the spring housing. I found that having them well aligned in a vertical aspect allows for the spring to work as intended. It does make a difference particularly for the increased dynamics in the music. It is pointed out in the instruction sheet, but I know what us boys are like, when it comes to reading manuals
Once installed I’ve found it a pleasant feature, how easy it is to align the speakers with a leveller. There is something very pleasing about turning those adjustment knobs somehow. :relaxed: Enjoy Peter

I will get them one day. Look nice too.

Great news to hear you’ve found the Podiums, moreover your experience and sentiments mirror mine, although I have a reinforced suspended floor.

During my other postings I have commented how good I have found the Podiums, but held back due to others dismissing them on account of my suspended floor, though

my belief has always been the uplift is too big to be dismissed in that way.

I’ve been using them a little over 12 months now and can never see me going back to spikes and you have confirmed they’re just as good on a solid floor.

In addition to your comments, I find with my Titan T88s, the sound is effortless, not forced, but out of the box and airy yet focused with a better soundstage (although the recent addition of Morgana xlrs deserve a mentionšŸ˜‰).

I have never wanted to go active but enjoy aspects of that presentation, the podiums go someway to delivering on that for me.

Before I sign off. To mention the load cells do benefit from being centred correctly, just a gentle rock of the speaker to make sure you can’t hear them rubbing and they’re moving freely.

Incidentally I do have Gaia under a sub in another room and find the Podiums far easier to set up.

Dont have carpet so can’t try, sorry.

Well peter i 100% blame you lol, as it was you that set the sead in my head about these.
As said i wasn’t expecting the difference between these and the gaia’s to be so great, as i did think that they both just did the same thing, but as said very wrong and i dont mind admitting things, when i am wrong.
But so glad i have and they will be staying, well not these ones, as these are demo ones, but i have already got some organised

Thanks for the advice on the feet positions, just had a look and i had a few that needed slightly adjusting, didn’t realise as no instructions with these and where i had been moving them about, like i said the rear ones needed sliding back a bit as i could feel it touched something, so might be even better now, cheers.

I use mine on carpet. Made a big difference when installed. Max is the man. He knows what he is doing, obviously listens and he has great ears.

Mine’s on thick carpet and underlay ontop of concrete floor. No problem at all , they work brilliantly.

Yes Max does seem to know what he’s doing . Their equipment platforms are not bad either

Well more messing about today, playing about with speaker position, toe in and even the switches on the back of the facts.
These podiums have certainly changed things, getting there i feel, but the sound has changed quite a bit since moving them about from where it was withvthe gaia’s.

Final update on these podiums.

Well they have required me to adjust the speaker position and finally after about a week, i have got them right.
Managed to push the speakers back towards the rear wall much more than i could with both the spikes and gaia’s, no bass booming, just very clean, fast controlled bass, i would say slightly less than the gaia’s, but by pushing the speakers back, i have gained slightly more.
But its the midrange thats really improved, you can really hear things much clearer and it has an even more clean, detailed sound than before and that has shocked me the most, its like i have different speakers really as thats how much these are different to the standard spikes, it does make me wonder why they dont come with something like this as standard, as its so much better.
Also increased the width by about 150mm on each side, added a bit more toe on each speaker, this has added to the lovely width of the music even more, it has more of the nice 3d sound.
So anyone thinking of trying some, then do it, as said the only thing i have lost is a bit of bass, but as said i have regained part of it, but not all, maybe this has helped me hear more of the other? Whatever it is, i am very happy with the results.

Has anybody tried these under Kudos Speakers? …a few of us have them - lots of talk of PMCs * on here - but I’d love to hear if anybody has any view or experience on Kudos.

I’m wondering if these would help or hinder the 808s in particular - decoupled cabinets and isobarik (do we spell that with a K in homage to Linn??) bass are very different to Fact12’s - which I used to own and (hangs head) never loved.

I wonder if it’s just degrees of improvement territory - as in they always benefit, and never harm, but sometimes and with some speakers it’s more than others.

I’ve long thought about them…

*and mention of Apogee Scintillas!!! …I remember vividly reading Ken Kesslers ** review of those in HFN&RR in the 80s, and can say definitively that’s when the hifi bug bit me…I must have read it 30 times!

**funny - he really irritates me nowadays. So much of that magazines content is about his personal tastes.

Hi Matt, as you say I think the Podiums will not work in all cases, as speaker designs are of course very different.
Signals relayed an experience to me with 808s, where they didn’t seem to cut the mustard. We can all but try these things…:+1:t3: ATB Peter

Hi Dunc, which size did you go with?

If you watch the video that Max has on this and how they work, its hard to imagine that any speaker would not benefit, unless its such that it does not move back and forth like is measured in the Townshend Video. Not clear why Signals would not have good luck with them with the 808’s–unless the speakers they tried them with are pretty unique.

As posted here earlier I have had my Kudos Titan T88’s on Podiums for a little over 12 months and my experience mirrors dunc, with the exception that I repositioned mine further from the wall.
Should I ever decide to replace the 88’s with the 808 my intention would be to place them on the Podiums.
