Trying to update my Uniti

I have tried to update my Uniti using USB to RS232 but it keeps telling me it isn’t communicating - can anyone help please? I have downloaded the driver for the RS232

I think the Uniti has to be powered up before you connect the USB lead…..

There are loads of other posts on this topic if you care to do a forum search

The connections have to be made and the Uniti powered up before you even launch the updater, let alone try to start updating.

But also it’s very important that the Uniti has a 3D board. With a RS232 socket, I would expect a 2D board, in which case the update shouldn’t be applied to this streamer.

Thank you - it was powered up

Thank you - connections were all made and Uniti powered up - it has a 3D board and is running version 4.8 - I checked it all before I even started

Clutching at straws, are you able to try another USB-RS232 cable,
preferably from a different manufacturer/source?

I ask only because there are an awful lot of dud USB cables around…..

Just echoing Osiris here. The upgrade guide says “We recommend products using either “FTDI” or “Prolific” chipsets for reliability.”

I did a quick search for cables with this chip before I bought one and the upgrade went through smoothly.

Worth checking yours for this. You may have to pay a little more, but worth it.

Good spot, never knew about the specific chipsets :+1:.

Unfortunately just bought this one so it’s brand new - originally tried USB to the USB port on the front of the Uniti - when I started the install it told me to use the RS232 or mini USB on the back but my Uniti doesn’t have mini USB - I think I’ll have to contact Naim support :slightly_frowning_face:

Thanks - I got an RS232 from ugreen which has got a Prolific chipset - purely accidental! I also downloaded the Prolific driver but still didn’t work :slightly_frowning_face:

Are the Uniti and the computer you are using to do the update both connected to the same network?

Also if you are using Windows try right clicking on the updater and selecting run as administrator.

One other thought, have you tried different usb ports on your computer? It might be worth trying.

Did you connect your uniti to the internet? Remember you need two connections, one to your computer and the other to your network.

Thank you - I will try selecting administrator - both are connected to the same network.

I think there’s only one USB port on my laptop but I will check.

Hopefully the OP may find this helpful…….

I have asked this before, but I don’t know whether I made myself clear.

In order to detect that the Naim product is connected to the virtual series port on your PC, you need to have a few things done before you even open the updater program, let alone start it. So you need all the cables connected, the PC on but don’t have the Naim updater program running at all. If it is running at even the first screen, then close it. Then start up, or if it is already running, restart the Naim product.

Only after the Naim product has restarted do you then select the Naim updater program. When you have the Home Screen for that, you can start the updater program and you should find when you go to the Com select screen that the virtual series port Com is available in the drop down. If it isn’t then you can’t go forward and you have to check everything about that virtual series port, like is it showing as working in device setup in the PC.

I think you have hit the nail on the head - both the Uniti and the laptop need to be ‘wired’ to the internet - I hadn’t twigged that - unfortunately I don’t have Ethernet port on my laptop so am going to have to get an adapter - it’s also tricky to have everything close enough - the RS232 cable isn’t very long and the router is in a different room to the Uniti
Thank you for pointing that out - I was working on wi-fi.

Thank you but I think Andries has found the problem - I wasn’t using wired connections to the Internet

Actually it should work ok over WiFi too, although it’s not recommended.

Anyway if that doesn’t sort it, have another look at my suggestion. It is actually what I had to do when updating four green screen streamers here.
