Unhappy with the new NAIM update

It’s more subtle than that, and you need to read carefully.

“I can confirm that there are no updates coming, as we have not announced or confirmed any updates for this range of products”

It doesn’t mean that there are no updates coming, rather that they haven’t announced any yet. It’s all a bit Yes, Minister, but understandable.

Yes - I read this tone in the text, but overall it’s another example of bad comms.
If I had only heared the official comm and have not read in the forum, I would have been already gone.

Nothing is perfect in this world. Don’t overthink it. It will all come good.

I have tried to be positive towards Naim on this matter. Trying to see the difficulties they might have, finding and solving the issue. But this kind of communication is making it very hard. This type of corporate communication bla bla is really annoying. It shows disrespect for customers, but also for some from Naim that try to be more honest.

Agree HH

Human nature - people love to keep on finding the negatives in life

I knew this would happen, classic streamer issue on the road to recovery, now lefts have a go at the New classics

For what it’s worth , my NSS 333 sounds wonderful

In this case there is not much search necessary. Try to imagine how you might have felt when your 333 has degraded very noticeably

The 333 degraded significantly from 2 versions ago. I am 100% certain that anyone with a resolving system and 2 333s side by side will hear it immediately. It is inconceivable to me how anyone wouldn’t. At the same time, audio memory fades quickly, and the 333 does not sound bad today, it actually sounds pretty good. Just not as good as before.

Good response @gk_audio

I’ve had this experience also over the years

Sometimes system sounds great lovely music flowing

Another day sounds like rubbish ( not quite but you know what I mean !)

The human brain , How feel on the day , moods etc etc

Except in this case it is due to firwmare, not mood :slight_smile:

Take your point, but are you sure it sounded better the first time :crazy_face::crazy_face:

Memory can play tricks :grinning::grinning:

Yes - it is an epidemic mind trick… we people here, hear the same issues - even some with legacy streamers…
All in our heads :wink::crazy_face:

Did you have it on the old firmware Bevo as a comparison?

Exactly as I find the ND555 as well. Sounds very good, but not at the pinnacle it was.

Not only 110% certain, but also very disappointed. I know every single note of my test playlist and how it was rendered. I updated the fw and played it again immediately. Many attributes of the sound that contributed to the engaging and organic character of the streamer are gone. It just sounds “good” now, it does not sound like something I want to listen to again and again.

Expect new fw next week if @Cohen1263 was given this info from Naim.
Wonder what day?
Looking forward to the update

There is a very sensible ban on politics on this forum. I suggest you delete the fourth sentence of your post. It is unnecessary for the point you are making.

I don’t mean to defend or attack Naim communication (I don’t care much about communication), but one should remember that when it comes to official communications (in contrast to “between you and me” communications), legal concerns are at play (well, in a well run organization). I don’t know if this plays a role in the current Naim official responses, but it is something to bear in mind. Sometimes, what you say is colored by what you can say. Still trying to see the sunshine…

If people aren’t happy with the effect of the firmware, why should they not raise the issue with Naim?
At the end of the day, everyone benefits from the work put in by those not afraid to speak out here, via support and other avenues, primarily Naim.

It’s great that you as an individual are happy with what you have, but that doesn’t guarantee the same level of performance for everyone.

Surely it’d be better to not say anything than send inaccurate, condescending messages to their customers? You know, we acknowledge reports have been made and we are looking into it rather than, 'there is no issue. We are confident in the quality of the current firmware and will not be making further changes. However, we encourage you to review your system setup".
I’ve reviewed my system setup and decided that I won’t be upgrading to another Naim streamer or DAC, NDX2 + 555PS → ND555 is completely off the table, Pilium, DCS, Grimm, etc. now on the list.

I believe you are of the opinion that feeding the 333’s dac via bnc sidesteps many of the issues the firmware causes, if not all. Did you try the bnc connection before updating to see what effect the firmware change had on using the 333 as a dac?

New firmware is not yet in Beta, and will take a while to be tested. Depending on what is found it is almost certainly going to need tweaking. I’d suggest you manage your expectations to weeks rather than days. Maybe it will be delivered by the Easter Bunny.
