If you touch the three dots on your post and then choose the pencil, you can edit your posts yourself. Please remember that all Naim owners are equally important, whether they own a 555 or something much more modest.
Right and from what I heard the sound characteristics that you personally disliked so much with 3.10.1 were seriously improved upon with the close to release version of 3.11 IMO. As you wrote worth a little more waiting.
Using the Uniti Core as a source via the bnc/dac into my 333 as opposed to using the Core via the network Ethernet cable has been illuminating and allowed me to enjoy the Naim sound with far fewer issues to my ears. This points the finger clearly towards the streaming module implementation and the radio/Tidal fixes. One minor issue is that the operation is more clunky using it this way.
@Cheddar_Cheeese has a Raspberry Pi, modified by Naim, with the 3.10.1 firmware. 35 is the right cost .
Yes, few weeks is good. You will have listening enjoyment and sunny hot days. What more ask for?
Thatās the bad thing we totally lost the listening season due to the poor firmware. Normally I start to spend more time outside in March/April and less with my hifi.
Ah well, such is life.
Ā£35 sounds very cheap. Just for the cost of a couple of CDs, you get all that Naim goodness. ![]()
I see that Richard has edited the original post to say £35K+ now. Now we are getting way outside my humble league.
I really hope that the glare will be gone - this is my most dislike with current FW.
You heared the difference - fingers crossed and ears prepared ![]()
Iām curious if they tried the Spotify on/off trick. I definitely hear a difference, and also with Tidal on/off. Spotify on is a bigger effect than Tidal, both on is too much. I use Qobuz and local files, no Spotify or Tidal accounts. But with Spotify on music sounds more engaging, captivating. It alters the frequency spectrum, so I know itās not correct with Spotify on, but it sounds more like music. I hope 3.11 gets us around the issue. Shouldnāt be a difference with them on or off. As an example: Miles and Wayne are more clearly distinguished in the opening of E.S.P. with Spotify on. Iām using a ND5XS2.
ND555 firmware, the gift that keeps giving. Formally the issue doesnāt exist. Formally there is no new firmware. The new firmware is coming in a few weeks. Release dates for new firmware are never communicated. The release date for the new firmware for the legacy streamers for iRadio was communicated by Naims Director of software on this very forum.
Formal communication that dismiss concerns from loyal customers. Not a single comment on this thread from Naim about issues with their reference streamer. Post about a missing iRadio station and the Director of software will reply directly and fix it for you.
You couldnāt make it up.
There are actually three things which need to be fixed:
- the already by you mentioned glare
- Bloating bass (sometimes)
- Lack of earthiness to the sound signatureā¦
Yes - I know! The glare bothers me most.
With lack of glare and more defined bass, I think the earthiness comes back.
Really hope that there is an end of this story soon.
Thanks for the advice, but I do not have access to Streamers other than the 555. That is why I would not contemplate commenting on other folks kit or indeed their importance to Naim. There are a few 555 owners about that have not felt particularly valued over the past 6 months. Seems that experience is now creeping up on owners of other Naim Streamers in the range. Letās hope everyone gets their concerns adressed, sooner rather than later, irregardless of their importance to the Mothership.
I also sincerely hope that if 3.11 Beta testing is undertaken, it is completed by owners of the relevant equipment. There are a few good folk on here that would no doubt do a sterling jobā¦all members of the DD.
Very good resume.
And as saint like as we are, we should stay as loyal as before and buy the future products, do we?
I will. I love music and Naim still the best way to reproduce it IMO
I felt that the glare was best addressed. Bass on 3.8.2 was superb and still not quite matched by 3.11. But the latter sounded incredibly open and energetic in a good way. We cant have 3.8.2 back which was such a relaxing listen but I feel that you guys will be so much happier with 3.11 than the forgettable 3.10.1
Was it really 3.8.2? In another thread itās mentioned that 3.8.4 was the last 3.8.x FW. But who caresā¦![]()
