Unhappy with the new NAIM update

Some folks won’t be satisfied until this forum goes the same way as Linn’s ……

Who knows? I’ve just noticed the official Naim app has a more recent software than the Beta, so not everything goes through the Beta testers!

I know that the latest conversions in this forum were about the firmware update for the 555, but there are also a lot of posts from people who were dissatisfied about the recent FW on other streamers (like the 222 and 333) so it would be good if the lessons learned on the FW of the 555 are also applied on the FW updates of the other streamers.

The timescale dos not bother me.
But telling via mail that FW influencing sound is impossible and a short time later … cohens visit with completely other words.
And: giving a release for some information (FW 3.11…) after cohens visit to she with the forum and a few days later answering that the forum is not official and there will be no update (NC only? - why?).
There are so much good guys at naim - I have no idea why this can happen.

Why and on what’s rationale? A red flag for the ones stating, that it is annoying that their 40K streamer is sounding bad after FW update and still does for 6 months now?
Sorry - I don’t want to offend you, but when you suffer from this situation the “downplay” is a bit frustrating.
But, I am fully with you on the timescale. All fine after Cohens visit - its ready when its ready.

Calm down Drago and consider that it may not be those affected by the issue that I am suggesting red carding!

Let’s try to inject some happiness in this unhappy thread (yes, me).
Had a flu the last 2 weeks (still this damn cough) and 20 min ago started with music after 2 weeks of nothing.
I sounds so wonderful!!!
Don’t know if it ever sounded better (love the vinyl like signature of NDS).

Yellow, red. It’s just a colour.

DG…

For clarity. During my three hour visit ( no tour just focusing on listening) the sonic shifts between FW’s was easily heard and 3.11 sounded really good, better than 3.10.1 for sure. 3.11 still had to go through functionality/bug testing.

I asked if I could reveal certain details that came out of my visit and one agreed was that Naim AIMED to release 3.11 by around the end of the month. You guys may remember Richard D writing that Jas and Paul had found the USB trick (carried out as per DarkBear’s method) “intriguing”. Maybe that has caused a delay??? If 3.11 ends up sounding even better than what I heard then great.

As for whether the release will be bug checked by the Naim IT guys or the Beta civilians I don’t know but it logically might or why would the end of March be feasible?

6 months and counting. Naim’s loyal and longstanding customers with poorly performing £35k+ Streamers, have the patience of a saint!

Thanks - wise words.
I am really excited to hear 3.11 - but I can wait longer. Waited long enough now.
Listening to NDS right now. Not a hint of HF glare! Maybe less airy but wonderful textured and coherent.
Will not install 3.11 (and put nd555 back in) before approx 5 to 10 here will tell that the glare is gone

Ps: but also look foreword to compare nd555 (3.11) with nds (3.8). Who knows…

Mine is certainly a bit more than £35.

And what is he?
Edit: found it … mine is also a bit more than 35 pounds

Mine is probably worth a lot more as well, but I got it for less… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I do not have this datapoint unfortunately. I was extremely happy with the 333 before as a streamer/DAC combo and did not try an external transport. After the upgrade issues I purchased a high end transport (K22) that seemed to my ears to alleviate the glare and other issues with the new FW. But I think part of Naim magic is in the streaming components, and bypassing those does change the sound character - for instance some of the Naim PRaT is not there with the external transport. But the organic, engaging sound is back.

The fact this event happened and an approximate date ahead was given was enough for me personally.

Of course I want it very soon, but waiting a few weeks if it will be end of this month or sometime next month is fine for me. If in a few weeks I’m back enjoying my streaming sourced music then I’m happy to put this saga into the past.

In development you get early versions of code - Alpha versions if you like then Beta version is what you think is nearly ready but needs checking then the Released version and perhaps a good Alpha proof of concept it could be done was heard and we will get something a bit improved on that ahead - but the fact an improved version is weeks away was good news.
