One thing I’ve learnt during this affair is that my ears / brain, and I presume others too, are very malleable. I started out really not liking 3.10 although there were some aspects to it that worked well, it was too strident for me and a little in your face. 3.10.1 was a good improvement and definitely took the edge off things but I still was not too keen compared to 3.8. As we all know we had to stick with 3.10.1 and after a month or two I began to stop hearing the things I disliked, sure some stuff is not great but lets not forget not everything sounded amazing on 3.8 either. I’m fairly convinced your brain initially only detects and focuses on the change or delta in FW sound signatures and over time it adjusts & adapts until it becomes the norm. If 3.11 lands somewhere between 3.8 and 3.10.1 with a little more texture I’ll be happy but in the meantime 3.10.1 is more than tolerable although I appreciate those with more revealing systems will be affected differently.
I suspect that the elimination of a live transformer inside the NDS is a big contributing factor here. With ND5 XS 2 the transport is always in close proximity to a ‘live’ transformer, regardless of any configuration. This is something which is widely overlooked when upgrading a NDX 2 with an external PSU say, with its onboard one being turned off. As well as utilising a beefier & separate quiet supply throughout the player too boot.
Yes - I know.
Hope that 4.10 will follow soon.
Thanks DB for a badly needed dose of sanity. This thread has decended from the sublime to the ridiculous. The last straw was the ‘C’ level communication that danced around the issues like Fred Astaire.
For crying out loud, how much longer do we have to wait for Naim to release a proper ‘fix’ for the issue ‘they’ caused 7 months ago by failing to adopt adequate QA/QC procedures? At this rate Musk will be on Mars, before 3.11 finally hits the streets.
Who knows, next we may even have folk blaming the whole sorry saga on the use of none Naim branded cables. Makes my head spin🤬
Shock, Horror I found a track that actually sounds pretty good with 3.10.1
Mind you I have just replaced all my cables with home terminated recycled 2.5mm twin and earth🙃
Thanks to @Stephen_Tate for the great advice:+1:
I had to read that twice. " C level communication". Chief.
He’s not C level actually. He’s site director according to Focal Naim.

Both CEO and Site manager have the same name (Cédric/Cedric). I believe it was written by them both in ageeement.

Hello GK_audio,
Can you please tell me more about your process and in particular how did you measure your speakers, when designing the digital FIR filters with Auidolence? Did you use an audio interface for the DAC conversion or the NAIM DAC (i.e. did you use the analogue output from the audio interface directly into your pre-amp, or you used the digital spdif to feed your DAC)? I am asking as in my opinion this would define if your FIR filter accounts for the phase-frequency response of your DAC or not.
Which year??![]()
Well, it will be interesting to see when the new fw will drop. Qobuz Connect is being rolled out with Qobuz 9.0.0.0 right now.
So if that’s the feature that was going to be implemented then apparently at the side of Qobuz they claim to be ready.
